Given the option...I wouldn't live in the city either.

I'd find a nice remote place OUTSIDE the reach of the extra taxes and abuse.

It's bad enough money is stolen from me that I've earned by the Feds & Province just to be given away to deadbeats and scumbags who would rather kill me than thank me for my troubles.

And don't anyone start crying that it's not STEALING...because it is...it's actually ARMED ROBBERY...because if I DON'T pay it...then armed thugs come to my door and haul me away in handcuffs.

I don't mind paying taxes if I KNOW the money is going somewhere useful...but there's a reason the Tea Party in the US is becoming so popular. It has nothing to do with morals..it has to do with being gouged by the government. Canada may find itself with similar movements if it continues (at any level of government) to keep stealing more from the populace.

yet... funny how in Europe they are increasingly moving away from the nanny state in leaps and bounds now that they have realized it makes no sense at all for 20% of the population to support the other 80%.

Sure they have had to raise taxed substantially, but at least they are making massive cuts at the same time.

So we know what the negative nannies and Loserpegs are thinking.
Those that want something new built in Wpg, because the HR Museum is federal are desperate to have something built in Winnipeg before 2025, that they have gotten behind this project!
lol

Wpg has way too many people who just don't go outside and stay inside at their computers complaining!
Oh my God! I am one of those, except that I am complaining about not building enough new things.
This will work, G.O.M., please lock it up! lol

If the team has "community ownership," why not release the business plan?

If they won't, then that may tell you to what extent we should have confidence in this board.

...no confidence in the board and CJOB.

This city is up to its a$$ in backroom deals it appears.

I don't want the "plan" released. I am trying to keep up with the Wikileaks.
There is no good to have a Bomber plan released to anone except if he/she goes to the games, and GOM is the only smart person on this forum who attends the games!

Funny, they keep insisting Asper was the first to talk about a stadium...seems to me CanadInns beat him to the punch by a full 2 years. Why are peggers so insistent on ignoring the facts. Is it too many beer bottles to the head or pucks ?

New stadium planned
Partly covered facility would include water park and hotel

Tue Dec 21 2004

By David O'Brien and Aldo Santin

THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers and a major hotel chain will unveil an
ambitious plan today that could see a partially enclosed stadium
attached to a new hotel and indoor water park built on land west of the
city.
The football club, Canad Inns and the Red River Exhibition Association
are launching a study on the feasibility of building a major sports and
entertainment complex.

It would be built on land owned by the Red River Ex on the west side of
the Perimeter Highway near the Assiniboia Downs racetrack.

"The study will allow us to have a peek into the future to determine
what is possible and what are the options," said Gene Dunn, chairman of
the board of directors of the football club.

Dunn said the existing 29,500-seat stadium near Polo Park Shopping
Centre is 50 years old and showing its age, but the feasibility study
will also look at the possibility of renovation instead of relocation.

A source involved in the project said a proposed design for the complex
would create space beneath the viewing stands for indoor events. That
space would be the enclosed portion of the stadium, he explained.

"The playing field itself would be largely protected, but not covered
over," the source said, adding the concept will be understood better
when an architect's rendering is released today.

The proposed complex would be located next to Assiniboia Downs.

Dunn declined to discuss details, except to say the city doesn't need a bigger stadium, but one that can be expanded.

He said it costs $65 to $70 a seat to add 20,000 seats to the stadium for Grey Cup games

I am against this building because it will bring too much traffic to the area and is likely to wear out the roads.

Since they're compensating AS Ker for his drawing, they should also compensate Ledohowski for his.

I had always heard the Asper family believed in Philanthropy.
I hoped David might donate the front-end work he did to get the new football stadium project going.
But it appears that hope is in vain.

i am not sure , but the last time I checked the Bombers were a for- profit venture?
Why would any one expect the Aspers to donate anything to any body, taking into account that their $1 Billion dollar company went bankrupt?
The criticism that I have is that the details for the $4 million dollar bill better be made public, since the bill is being paid for by the Manitoba government.
The public shouldn't depend on WikiLeaks to see the details!
Those dollar amounts seem to be outrageous.
It reminds me of Conrad Blacks company that under his guidance was a going concern, but when an accounting firm took over, ran all the cash out through payments at ?? $500 per hour.

I agree Liv. I am scratching my head wondering just how ASPER was the driver for a new stadium.. It just does not make any sense for anyone to think that.

connect the dots...

there's been a rash of "pro" or "thank you" David Asper type articles in the paper for the last few days. There's also been a rumbling, as well as a statement from the chair of the bumbler board wanting to get Asper as a member of the board again.

Coincidence?

I spose the board seat is a "thank you" gift for all his hard work screwing the public and getting paid to do so.
