and no party is willing to make that a rule as they know it would totally sink their chances in any riding in Quebec in the next federal election.

Deank wrote:Lets not forget it was the alliance that caused the bloc to be the official opposition for a term.

Ahem.. Please change that statement. It was due to P. E. Trudeau. If Canada could have learned one thing from Joe Clark's failed minority government. It was this. It allowed P.E. Trudeau to inadvertently drive a wedge between Western Canada and Eastern Canada. It also incensed many separatists, so much so that it solidified their resolve to weaken the Federal government so that they one day could be the crux of Ottawa. Jack Pariseau even said back in 1991 that a weak federal government would be what the Bloc needs to further their separatist agenda.

What is happening now is the BIG LIE has control over the proposed NDP/Liberal coalition. Those Separatist Elite are not dumb. Like Comrade Lenin said. "If you tell a lie often enough, it will become the truth". And such has happened in Quebec and Canada.

I'm considering merging the three topics we now have on the one subject. I have no idea which thread to go to on this issue.

I'm a Free Press Insider. The questions they are asking on this issue are as inane as the issue themselves. Here is an example...

If a Liberal-NDP coalition government were to be formed, which political leader do you think should lead it and become prime minister?

Please select one response only.

Stéphane Dion
Elizabeth May
Michael Ignatieff
Bob Rae
Jack Layton
Giles Duceppe
Don't know

Please be as specific as possible.
Yup. Satan is the answer I'm sure.

Then Canada and Quebecois can then say to the small minority of political elite who are fooling Quebecois and Canadians alike by the Big Lie. Time to vote, in or out. Then Canada can get back to a parliamentary system that is not weak and is played for fools by the bloc's rhetoric.

This is the only way to prevent Bull sh1t from happening in Parliament like it is now.

Thoughts?

One of my co-workers thinks that Canada doesn't work and that the Bloc have the right idea. Ontario's interests will always be more important to the Feds than Manitoba's because ON is needed in order to win a majority. He thinks each province should be a country.

Personally, I don't quite agree with him. But I do believe that if Quebec wants to go, then they should go since we are likely to be better off economically without them. Support the Bloc! Let's kick Quebec out. But let Montreal vote to become a city-state, independent of Quebec.

I'd rather see the GG tell the Coalition NO and then tell them and the Tories to take a break and reconvene Parliament in January.

Some people want an election. But, it's unlikely that an election will bring about a majority government for the Tories or the anyone else.

GC, do you believe the Tories can end up with a majority government, in a spring election? If so, where do you see them adding seats from?

The Tories should continue with their minority government. They should introduce a new mini-budget, minus the foolish and legislation that they tried to sneak in. Also, Harper should fire Flaherty for the terrible mini-budget and then the PM himself should resign and have the party appoint an interim leader with a new leader to be selected in the fall. For whatever reason, Canadians have not warmed up to Harper enough to give him a majority. That's not likely to change. Harper is stiffer than Al Gore and he's too far to the right for most of us (proof? he would have won a majority by now.)

I am not impressed with Dion and Layton. The Liberals and NDP should have backed down when the Tories back tracked on the budget because causing the government to fall would result in yet another election that will result in the same situation that we're in now. Dion's a tool and don't get me started on Jack. Some prominent Liberals have distanced themselves from the Coalition, which is a righteous and clever thing to do.

Even if an election were to be called, I would have only one party to vote for. The stupid Tories called the last election because "parliament wasn't working" and NOTHING changed, except we spent $300 million for no change. Of course, Harper thought he might get a majority, that was his real motivation. I can't see myself supporting the Liberals even if Dion were to be replaced soon, since they are largely responsible for bringing the country into this crisis. They should have backed down and then spend the next year or two rebuilding their war chest. They can't afford to have an election and they do NOT deserve to spearhead a coalition, even with a new leader.

The Alliance and Reform parties did the right thing by uniting. Now the Liberals and NDP should do the same and form a new party with a centrist platform. Due to the strength of the Bloc in Quebec, I can't see the Liberals forming a majority any time soon. Ditto for the Tories. I could be wrong.

After watching the first 15 minutes of CBC's broadcast and then the next watching CTV's coverage, the partisan lines are so obvious. CBC could not speak more negatively while CTV looked for bright spots.

What I saw tonight borders on the surreal. It seems Dion could not get his national address in on time. But my God what I saw of his address is unbelievable. My opinion here is no doubt clouded and biased but surely for those that believe in the coalition, or in Dion, the latest from Dion can only be described as horrendous.

This is the man that would lead the government of Canada. My good lord we're in supreme trouble. God helps us.

Only for a few months as their new leader no doubt would have something to say . I don't believe the deal could survive the election of new member as it would be challenged . Harper missed a good opportunity to smooth the feathers tonight and blew it big time he came across to rigid.

Some ass kissing was called for to the Liberals to take some of the steam out of their sails . Then during the holidays go out and sell that you have extended the olive branch and they did not take it . This makes them appear bad and you good , kiss Quebec good bye as you have alienated them for sure now . Bad move as you need them to get the majority .
Harper has some poor handlers that is for sure , Dion is only a puppet for someone else . Jack go back to selling cars .

Apparently, the geniuses who recorded Dion's speech, didn't have the good sense to check the bookshelf. The book titled "Hot Air" sits on the shelf in the yellow circle, which is precisely what Dion's speech was full of.

This man is gone in what few months so what more to say. Stephen has to smarten up drastically to avoid defeat next time as he is his own worst enemy .
He has now lost all chance of a majority and kissed Quebec good bye . Some day the conservatives will learn to run a party that people can believe in , Right now they have no competition and look at them . Running scared and trying to cover all bases , when all they needed to do was appear as the peace makers . Also stop using the word separatist as this is labeling all in Quebec as one . Suggest Stephen you need a new team of handelers. He should have had french provincle flag behind him appear as there freind not as there enemy .
He is acting like they are all enemys of the country.

They are separatists. How many Bloc seats are there? That to me spells separatists. The majority of Quebeckers that are NOT separatists could not defeat the Bloc.

1+1 mon ami = 2...

Curious Pav, you sound like you fully agree with the CTV analysis of tonight's events...
