I totally agree we need end this public funding of the parties. Is it worth another election? That I am not so certain of.

Is it worth another election ?....the other parties can't afford another election for heaven's sake...nor can they afford to give up that money. Interesting positioning if Harper makes it a confidence motion eh? Smile

How do the other parties think it will fair in the public's mind that they force an election, not on a matter of grave concern to the state of the nation, but because the government is going to eliminate funding for political parties at taxpayers expense? Bring it on!

I would laugh hard at the NDP/Bloc/Liberals if they vote against it. I would go to the polls if need be.

Harper is a very very shrewd man. This recession thing might be just what Canada needs to shake up the goofy way things are done. If the opposition vote against it, then they look like the greedy entitled politicians they are and Harper might just get his Majority ( YAY ). I wonder if there is a way he can combine the bill eliminating public funding of political party's with a bill to make the Senate Elected Effective and Equal.

Kill 2 birds with one stone.

My only problem is the cost of the election. .. well not of the election.. but of the cost of the fact that so much donation and advertising dollars gets refunded right back from the Taxpayers.

Sometimes it takes some money to fix problems.

An other election at 300mill to fix what is wrong with Canada is a small price to pay. Just think of all the jobs it creates at Elections Canada. That may put food on some tables this winter season.

Take the money that is spent on political parties and send a cheque to families with children, students and guys that wear berets instead. That'll provide a little stimulation to the economy eh.

It is funny. Chretien made laws about political party financing when the PC's couldn't get any lower. When they needed the funding the most they could no longer get the huge corporate donations.

Shoe is now on the other foot. How will the Liberals be able to afford to pay their loans off.

And it could not have happened at a better time. I am looking forward to getting rid of Tax payer funded party's, and hope the next Premier of Manitoba does the same thing and gets rid of it here too. Maybe that is why Doer was in a hurry to pass it. before the federal C's could get rid of it, then Doer couldn't say well the feds do it.

If you check out some other forums *cough cough* the leftwingers are already up in arms...what a joke! It doesn't matter what Harper does they will always jump all over him. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

Tax dollars to fund a party is wrong plain and simple.

The eye opener in the story?
The Bloc-Quebecois gets 86% of its funding from the public subsidy. How
insane is that? If you want to tear apart the country, DO IT ON YOUR
OWN DIME, ASSHOLES!

That really is a word that economists use to describe a particular kind / type of recession.

A technical recession occurs when the level of real national output declines over two successive quarters causing a contraction in the total volume of production in the economy.
