Great News a smaller , cheaper, less comfortable stadium! So appropriate for a structure that will be used 10 times in a year!
Glad we are spending $400 million on a structure honouring dead people! They should have combined both at the Forks, only the "dead people's thing should have been in the hallways!

Not so much a sh1t on Asper opportunity. Sorry... The story says Selinger want's to make sure this goes forward even without Asper. It goes on to say that Selinger is looking at this as a good PR move with a Provincial election on the horizon.

But... there are some on this forum who will gladly hand their tax dollars over for this venture and for concert halls. Confounding isn't it?

No he doesn't Creswin is still part. Creswin gets a seat on the board and Asper gets the option to purchase the bombers at some point in the future when retail turns around. Its still about Asper.

AND yes its a 100% sh1t on Asper. He is the one who has been given chance after chance after chance with no explanation as to why he is considered a god for the bombers.

At asshatsellinger Holy frick budy... 546million deficit and you want to add to it? Can you just tell us now how much you are going to put into the Museum too, so that we can rip the bandaid off all at once?

What about the east side-west side debacle? Add that in too. Oh, and all arts funding. Plus all cultural events. We can parse this deficit in no time flat...

Ask the Bombers why they are so high on him.

Then there are some on this forum who won't acknowledge the difference between creating new infrastructure and maintaining existing infrastructure.

On the subject....

1. Just what is wrong with the old stadium again? (The list has been fooled with so many times that I forget).

2. What is the cost to fix its deficiencies?

3. Why can't the Club itself develope the area around the existing site to finance its operations?

I've read where there might be $40 million in renovations alone including extensive plumbing issues. That number might be 5 years old.

If we look at the stadium alone it is an uncomfortable relic that has horrid customer amenities such as squalid washroom facilities (just plain nasty) and inferior concessions. The parking lot is worse than any crumbling road you could think of.

If we were to compare the stadium to the MTS centre and Canwest Park is like comparing a rusty old 1950 jalopy to a 2010 Cadillac.

That's fine except perhaps we have the rusty old 1950 jalopy and not the 2010 Cadillac right now because it is all we can afford right now...and...

And or there might be more important things on the agenda instead...GGF

I read "scaled back" and somehow I wasn't shocked. This is Manitoba; this is Winnipeg. Many larger projects get scaled back there. I would rather have more funding for this stadium than the CHMR, if I had to choose that is. The Bombers give back much more to this city, and likely always will. Therefore, they would be a much better investment opportunity, but that has been blown anyways, so bring on the brand new mediocre, less than awe inspiring stadium.

I call shenanigans. At this point the stadium deal should DIE. Issue a request for new proposals, and that all proposals submitted include details of financing including backers names.

This time, may the best proposal win. Once proposals are submitted they will not be allowed to change them.

BINGO! I agree. Let's open it up to everybody and open the details to the public.

Who mandated the Board to sell the Bombers btw? That's something that's never been discussed.

I'd still like to see Leo's St. Boniface plan. Although I do like the U of M locale.

The U of M locale is public or government land and anything else would be probably private land that would have to be leased etc..and...

And what I was trying to get at in my other post about Polo Park is that the "actual land" that the stadium is built on right now is in "Private Hands"...GGF
