This month was supposed to be drop dead month for the poject moving forward. not much has been said in the media by Asper ( and well duh the business deal part would remain quiet at least until deals are signed) but will the self imposed deadline be kept?

I'm still of the opinion that while it would be nice to have a new stadium, we do not need one. A new stadium will not make the bombers any better nor will it make Winnipeg a better place to live. All it will do is make money for D.Asper and friends and will give him control of the football club too.

How about we pay down our Provincial Debt first so my farging grand children don't become slaves to CHINA in order to make payments on the interest of today's debt.

When I was a youngster and asked my parents for things like a new bike, skateboard, etc, I got the standard "wants and needs" lecture. Do you WANT a new bike or do you NEED a new bike? Same rule applies to this stadium debate...

Well, good thing we decided to go with the deal that was reliant on being able to lease a bunch of commercial space at the start of a recession. That was a smart move.

that was just aspers "own set option" he does not have to follow it, nor will he.

(also a awesomingly good thing to go ahead and announce the IKEA deal which will be a much better retail market before Asper secured his tenants eh?)

Yup. But I'd prefer them announce the IKEA thing than intentionally delay it to try to help Asper get tenants. That would be pretty shifty even for Winnipeg.

The lack of progress on the stadium is disappointing....and I wasn't really one way or the other on getting a new stadium.

If your going to do it, then c'mon, lets get working on it already.

If not, go away and stop asking for money every time someone gets a hardon for something new.

In today's sun it is stating that Asper has asked the bombers for a 6 month extension. His deal expires at the end of this month.

U.S. recession puts Asper deal in doubt

A deadline of the end of the month is contained in the deal Asper signed with the football club, an agreement that will turn the team over to Asper after more than 75 years of community ownership. The source says Asper has asked the board for an extension, probably around six months, and he'll likely get it. Asper stopped short of saying he's asked for more time.

Put it to bed already. Wait till the economy bounces back, then open up the process to all interested parties.
