I was happy to read this from the free press:

Stadium construction appeal collapses

The new design for the Bomber stadium at the U of M.
Construction on a new home for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers may proceed as scheduled, as an appeal against a new $115-million, 33,000-seat stadium at the University of Manitoba failed today at city hall.

Several dozen Fort Richmond and University Heights residents oppose the construction of the Canadian Football League facility at the northwest corner of Chancellor Matheson Drive and University Crescent due to concerns about noise, traffic, parking and hooliganism.

Three of them took a formal appeal to city council’s appeals committee today, but saw it quashed by Couns. Gord Steeves (St. Vital), Russ Wyatt (Transcona) and Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan).

The councillors did, however, tie the issuance of a project permit to the completion and approval of a stadium-area traffic study that’s already underway.

Yes no doubt there will be teething problems with the parking , but this facility is needed by all . Some will have their lives inconvenienced for a few hours but the price is the price .

Surprise surprise. Scrap the deal, and kick Asper to the curb, so I can urinate on him.

Wonder how long he knew what the final price would be.

Right from the start. that or you would have to conclude his Architect is a complete idiot.

Creswin stand to make a pile of coin on this. this should go back out to tender.Forget what the useless Bomber board has to say.

I'll stick with the Black Rod's insider info, 190 Million pricetag.

Was at the site today, very very quiet in the trailer. For a project of this size, i would have expected alot more activity inside the construction trailers. Not much happening, so i suspect everyone is holding their breath on the next Council meeting.

This should be dropped like a hot potato. What a corner we've painted ourselves into.

"Sources say the price is more than $160 million and the stakeholders are now huddling to determine what comes next. The project will require extra money or the design could be altered to make the stadium fit the $115-million budget used to put together the existing funding package. There is concern the project is in danger of being scrapped altogether."

Major funding shortage for new Bomber stadium

Ironical, isn't it...both Asper projects are short by the same amount, if you go by what's been reported in the media, $45 Million.

Same amount that Babs Asper is asking for their Florida mansion.

And what do you think? Is it right to use public money to build a stadium?

In this day and age of infrastructure deficits, budget restraints and endless big government debt that will cost us more and more to service, for such a large project, there out to be a plebiscite.

Let government spell out what are all the other projects that could use the funding and let the taxpayer decide.

Have the Crestwin folks publish a business plan to make their case.

The public should be able to have their say. And if they say yes, build it.

Way to many Loserpeg comments from the Forum!
I am shocked at the bad attitude, and I have decided to write a $100,000,000 cheque so the Museum and the Bombers can have a proper home!
I cannot take it with me, and at age 66+ I might as well do this1
It will have to be done under "anonymous" so others won't bug me about donations!
DeanK this does not change my pledge 2 weeks ago to your campaign, and please do not complain about how small the pledge to you was in relation to the $100,000,000 dollars! lol

Agreed.

I still like the idea of razing South Point Douglas. Smile

This poll is missing the obvious "continue, force creswin to pick up the cost overruns as originally agreed"

Should creswin balk, go to court to sue them.

Cost is getting a lot closer to the $215,000,000 number Rosen fired out a couple of days ago in the Winnipeg is chintzy thread.
Considering construction(if you can call it that) has barely started Rosens number may turn out to be the most accurate yet.
Maybe he should be the guy doing estimates on behalf of the city. Wink

As much as I hate to say this, scrap it. This deal is beyond rotten. We need a new stadium though.

Can we just bulldoze the violent, crime-ridden north end and build it there? That way we would be killing two birds with one stone.
