I can't say for sure. But I'm willing to bet that they will be available for most games in the summer and on the weekends. I expect there will be the odd conflict on weekday games when school starts.

I just drove through the campus. One really does not get a sense of scale until one see's it first hand.

There will be TONs of parking around the new stadium. The distances to the residential areas to the south of the University is significant. As is the distance from Pembina Highway to the new stadium. That would be quite the walk for those parking outside the University.

And if you drive around the residential area, around University Crescent south, to the streets in the area you'll see just how problematic it would be for the potential parking scofflaws to park there and "cut through" yards.

The same problems for potential parking scofflaws exist along University Crescent North of the University.

Maybe the powers that be will put in the consideration that there should be no parking allowed on or near the campus on game day and make park and ride mandatory. That certainly would save a lot of the problems that the near by residents think will happen. I go to the university once a week to play soccer at the indoor complex which happens to be right next to the new stadium and if I were to park in one of the local residential areas I would have to walk a minimum of one mile to get to the new stadium. For me that would not be a big deal as a mile is something I do on a lunch hour but for a lot of the regular fans it would be a chore. There is a lot of open parking on the campus that is available but if the park and ride thing is not considered, then maybe like the MTS Centre does, charge for parking on ticketmaster when you purchase your tickets and then be assigned to a particular parking lot on campus. If you don't have this ticketed parking then park and ride is the other option. But really up to 10 games a year plus maybe 10 other days for concerts????? and they complain????? NIMBY syndrome, Winnipeg Style.

Approximately half of the home games would overlap with the University school year.

Does anyone know if paid student parking is for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Perhaps, but how many of those games would be on a weekend? The parking lots I saw today were almost completely empty.

I would imagine the situation will be different in the middle of Sept.

I only have one question. Who gets the $$ from parking durring Foot Ball Games and outdoor concerts?
Will the Club get the $$ or will the University get the $$.

I am not trying to split hairs.
My original question was:
"Are the students paying for parking for 7 days 24 hours a day?"
If they are paying for 7 x 24 then the lots will be patrolled and anyone who does not have a student parking tag will be towed and it will not matter what day of the week or what time of day it is.

Parking is "scramble" type and goes til 4:30. Weekends are free.

I recall that it was pretty busy on weekends, but that was 100 years ago.

Already cant find a spot to park most weekends when there is a track meet, hockey game or basketball/volleyball.

People South of the stadium are worried about this? Why? With the amount of parking between them and the stadium available after 4:30, why would someone drive far out of their way so they could have a 15 minute walk instead of just parking close? There's an entire university full of free parking after 4:30 between them and the stadium. Everything from U lot to the lots beside Geology, plus the lots behind engineering to the south including everything in between (max bell, education, etc), is closer to walk to the stadium than housing south of the university. It's almost the entire student parking and staff parking for the full university aside from the lots behind Arts. Some people from the U of M park on the streets south of the university during the day because they don't want to buy parking passes. But once it hits 4:30 and everything other than the 24 hour reserved spots are free (and they aren't many of those), people won't be parking in that area because there are loads of spots closer.

See...I have mixed feelings about this one.

On one hand...I think if they are building a new stadium...it should be "self-sufficient"...ie. if they want 20k + to attend every game, they should be required to have parking enough for 20K+ attendees (taking in accounts for 2-4 per vehicle etc.)

It should also be something that is used year-round for shopping/entertainment/etc...not just for a "season of football".

Building it where it is and expecting fans to park in the local neighborhoods, or somewhere on campus is unreasonable and could create some serious problems when school is in session.

The alternative would be to build a large park&ride area that TICKET holders could park free, and take a bus/shuttle in to the game (Winnipeg Transit already offers free bus fare for ticket holders anyway), and the only parking around the stadium would be for handicapped, staff, and MAYBE "Season" ticket holders.

Then anyone caught parking on the campus or surrounding areas during a game without a university pass would be ticketed and towed.

well.. for one... there is really no housing in St James that is anywhere near the stadium... so I dont know how property values would be impacted, but for 2.... the houses that are close to the stadium.. well they aint lower property values because of the stadium, thats for sure.

Driving home this evening, we went down Wellington Crescent and saw cars parked bumper-to-bumper from the footbridge to about Waterloo.

I reckon the folks around the university will see this in their neighbourhood with the new stadium eh.

I really doubt those were cars for the show. People are lazy

Of course it was for the show at the stadium.

People park there and walk over the footbridge. There are guards posted at all the parking lots keeping people out. There's no free parking, or any for that matter, around there.

Same with the university site I believe.
