Sask used to run a successful lottery. Do they still?

77K tickets sold for lifestyles lottery. AND A BUTTLOAD of prizes.

I think this one would appeal more directly to sports fans

maybe 25 years of suite would be too much? but 10 would be great. every 10 years then they could even sell less tickets. or more tickets for less money and still come out on top.

Can you imagine an extra say $25 million dropped in the hands of the bombers board every 10 years?

LOL, the Winnipeg Football Club is now the lead ? The same group who couldn't leverage a FREE site. The same group who picked this "winning bid"...You gotta be kidding me.
Make no mistake. Taxpayers will pay for this thing. The Football clubs financials can not support this type of investment. If it weren't for the grey Cup rev's they wouldn't have balanced their books. Not to mention City and provincial support over the years in the way of forgiven liabilitities.

Will have to wait for the details. Either way, it will pass council and construction proceeds. And they still don't have a final cost. I'm thinking , when yuou factor idn what they will pay Asper for the little work he actually did, we'll hit 215 Million plus.

Let's change the board and how the board is chosen.

THerre must be a reason they haven't talked about lottery's. This has been bandied about for a couple of years.

Not sure why they ignore alternate possibilities but they are dead set and they are the only ones who know how to finance a building.( use tax dollars, wow, very difficult concept to come up with )

Not sure who has the pwoer to change the board. Seems like they do what they want and the City backs them in terms of losses when they happen. In the end, the board isn't accountable to anyone.

Then let's find out how to fix it.

Go for it if the intention is to keep it as is and incur the 70 Million dollar debt.

(My intention would be to own the Bombers and the stadium and do away with the current board.)

Any bets on when this information is released? How about at the last moment prior to Christmas, thereby avoiding immediate media attention? These sleazeballs will wait until everyone has shut her down for the Christmas break hoping to minimize the noise.
Manitoba's premier said an announcement regarding a new financing deal for the football stadium may not occur Friday as planned."A final decision hasn't been made on that," Premier Greg Selinger said following question period Thursday afternoon. "It may not occur tomorrow but everybody's working towards a pre-Christmas decision."Selinger said working a guaranteed maximum price into the deal has been an important piece of the puzzle, but did not specify whether that or something else might be holding up the announcement."The reality is everybody has to be brought into the loop on this and brought up to speed and if that requires an extra day or two, so be it."A spokesman for Mayor Sam Katz said the deal has not yet been finalized and no announcement has been set for Friday."There's nothing, to my knowledge, happening tomorrow," the spokesman said.

Time to scrap this fiasco. City will apy 7 Million of land sale ...but don't forget, the TIFF isn't being calculated to what the City actually will end up Paying, by City I mean, youse and me.

Add in the entertainment tax and they may just as well say its taxpayer Funded.

Why do they keep using the term PARTNER....can they not stop themselves from being such a fcking bunch of amateurs and just call it what it is .....its TAXPAYER FUNDED...period, grow a set of balls and and just say it.

Ugh, if I hear one more hand clapping penguin mutter how we are the Center of it All , Winniupeg is world class, I swear, I will vomit in their mouth.

Please do whatever you want, just stop insulting me with the immature spin. I swear, i'll be more accepoting if you just say the taxpayers will invest 250 - 300 million in a stadium rather than all this nonsensical "deal making ". What fcking deal making, its Not Their Money. Are you kidding me. And these are the people we trust with our Money....yikes.

Part of me is beginning to like the idea of post-poning the stadium deal so that the political parties can float their plans and the public can elect whoever has the best plan. Of course, this will not happen.

Selinger has no mandate. The new elected Premier will have a mandate.

Sure would be a nice election issue. something nice and concrete that people can actually take time and think about.

I swear this is nothing but a ploy to pick a time to make this announcement that would have the least amount of media coverage. These asshats misunderestimate the blogoshpere and forums such as this one.

snag is..

No way in hell the city will be selling the property for more then 7 million any time soon
and
No way in hell anything will be built on that property for at least 10 years so there will be no tax dollars coming to help pay off the loan

Bet someone asked those questions and the board had no reply as to how they were going to make a go of it without the city money.

Heh. I remember the naysayers screaming that land is worth $15 - $30 million and that the city was "giving" it away.

Wonder what the real truthiness is...

Deank

It is worth that. But just not right now.

So we will end up with someone buys it for a song.. and sits on it for 10 to 15 years waiting for it to become of value again.

Then stipulate the property MUST be fully developed by 2015 or the land reverts back to the city for the same price.

no.
reverts back to the city for free.

Gotta put some onus on the developers to do more then just park the money.

I agree with this. It reverts back to the city, developer loses his money, if they could only do the same thing with surface parking lots.
Our stadium is 50 years old and a crumbling disgusting piece of junk, yet it was funny hearing the same thing yesterday about the 28 year old metrodome, how it only was supposed to have a life span of 20 years, too bad they can`t move that here!
