Liv....even Nippers see that Selinger is spending money that he doesn't have.

McFayden gives off a disciplined and thoughtful approach this time....as long as he doesn't say anything about the Jets, he has a good chance to be elected Premier.

It's my expectation the conservatives will be more vocal in the new year. Heh. They could not be less vocal eh?

I sure hope this is part of some brilliant conservative communication strategy...

Agree JTF, but, from experience, those worries evap[orate the closer you get to an election, suddenly it becomes a hockey game and you are rooting for your "team to win, not necessarily for whats best .

GOM, couldn't agree more, the silence is deafening. Doer would never had sat on his hands like this.

I think i'l play contrarian to you. ( I still like and respect you )

I was being generous in two of those three offerings. That means I was dabbling in the sub-prime market/bank. This current forecast is triple A so walk it into any bank in town.
Just make sure you vote right in 2011 or the only boom we'll experience in the future will be in the PayDay loan business. Speaking of which - is it legal in Manitoba yet to finance against future welfare cheques? That would be a huge market Liv - let's meet for lunch and look at the numbers.

Does this mean we'll need a life raft to be able to cross the Red River over the Disraeli Bridge?

Yes you'll need a raft - however you'll have to supply your own because it won't be deemed a "survival" need. Strange - considering that VLT funds are deemed a survival need.

OFF topic, seems like Regent Casino needs an upgrade to keep "fools" , i mean "taxpayers" errr, i mean "clients" to keep coming in. Like Homecoming 2010, Casino's have been a bust when it comes to attracting outside manitoba money and interest....

Heh, here is what gerbassi had to say after caving in and abandoning her moral outrage:
“I was able to accept it in the end. I had to say yes or no to the whole thing. I didn’t have an in-between answer,” Coun. Jenny Gerbasi (Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry), one of the six opponents on Tuesday, said after giving thumbs-up to the city’s $12.5-million stadium expenditure.
"I didn’t have an in-between answer"... Ahhhh, another fence sitting position. Gotta love it.

I'd like to know how that came about. How exactly was that part of the discussion for the BUILD contract? Shouldn't that have been something that was discussed and decided on after council approved the deal?

ie.. it just left as.. Council will appoint one member to the committee>?

I'm still waiting for some friggin politician from the city to say...."....but it's not costing us much...the province is paying for it...."!!

....as if it is being paid for by some mysterious benefactor.

It's the same tax payer !!!

We live in a very surreal world.

They actually said that quite a bit during the debate yesterday

It's insane.

This must make the people that don't live in/near Winnipeg very happy. Their taxes will go to pay for this, some say, unnecessary stadium.

....but with 2400 person-hours (or something) of work, as Selenger has already been saying, it's all about job creation for the up-coming election.

Remember, the province is the biggest job creator in this province and anything that can skew the numbers interests these commie bastards.

I'd probably be all for a new stadium however I'm still trying to choke down the CHRC monstrosity. I think that's why many peole are polarized on this. That however specifically that Asper's were/are behind both. Add to that, that Canadian taxpayers have a 150% debt ratio and we're sick of people blowing our wages as though it grows on trees. Add to that, that politicians don't seem to give a shoot about that aspect or the PR effort that would maybe overcome some of the sentiment. It's the on-going audacity that bothers most I believe. Agree or disagree?

We've already got museum threads galore. Can we try to limit the museum bashing to those threads and the stadium bashing to this thread?

Yes but the CHRM was mentioned as context to the stadium issue/response. The point being that they are not mutually exclusive in the minds of people. Two big fat money-pits back to back - and therefore why people are less-than-otherwise thrilled with the idea of a new stadium.

Maybe we just have to accept the fact that this PROVINCE CAN ONLY SURVIVE IF WE KEEPT USING TAXPAYERS MONEY AS THE BIGGEST SOURCE OF JOB CREATION.

oops caps, so till the perpetual motion machine keeps grinding away until a gear seizes, we'll just have to grin and bear it.

As for the build, same General stays on board and basically they are buyinf Asper's renderings for 4 million. Not a bad return but when outsiders , if they are even interested, parse it out, Winnipeg will still be seen as a City in the middle of nowhere . We had another great opportunity to set a standard slip by. Oh well. bottom of the barrel is still somewhere.

Agree that our politicians are more about scoring points with influential people than they are about looking out for the best interests of the average joe.

Bomber club announces stadium deal at noon today

CJOB News Team reporting
12/21/2010

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are holding a press conference at noon today to announce further details of the new Stadium deal...

In a statement released yesterday, Board Chairman Bill Watchorn and club President Jim Bell promised to outline their "plans on moving forward with commercialization of the new stadium."

The club is expected to explain how they plan to pay back the $85-million loaned to them by the province over the next 40 years.

CJOB will be carrying the conference live.
