Excellent news. I buy frozen dim sum entrees now at a small store in China Town. I hear these folks have terrific fresh Asian foods.

That was what I was getting at earlier.

If hughie can counter selinger's idea with a viable proposal that uses fewer tax dollars and more "user" fees, and end's up with much the same stadium, then I can't see them ignoring the proposition.[/quote]

Yes, hugh is the only one in a position who can make some noise on the issue.

HEYYYY.....whoever is slacking in the administration, can you move this Chinese stuff off this thread. I'm getting confused and hungry.

Good point in Bruce Owens FP piece comments section.

How much was Leo compensated for his work putting together a stadium proposal.

Real good point.
Leo got zilch for his proposal....matter of fact I don't think they even gave him a reason for not accepting it.

Of course, the reason is that the Bomber board is in As Kers pocket.

You may recall that Leo employed one of Filmon's former cronies, Taras Sokolyk, as CEO (and still does), so the NDP weren't too keen on listening to Leo's proposal. Or something like that.

I think they still have to justify their decision.

Perhaps it is time to re-visit his proposal, as many wish, so the board's decision should be looked at no? (..as part of the re-visiting).

Can anyone list the complaints of the 1953 stadium?
can anyone list what dollar estimates for repairs or maintenance?
What crooks are saying $55 million in repairs?

I think Leo had by far a better proposal than any of Asper's. Although, I was up for the demolition of Point Douglas....

Leo can't afford this thing. He will have to rely on almost 100% of government support to even attempt it. Watching the Met 's slow pace and fumbling the water park plus not sure how the Health Science hotel is going, I don't think Leo is much different than Asper. In fact, neither of them come close to being able to afford a stadium.

Renderings are cute, but where's the cash.

Is our mayor throwing up a trial balloon to see if the existing local residents will accept new Condominiums in the current Winnipeg stadium area?
(starting to smell like the Elms idea may not fly.)

Pulling at straws.

Developer will have to pay City at least 15 million for land.

Not sure if bombers become the developer with proceeds of sale going to pay for stadium ( POM bridge loan ) or , hell, i don't get it.....may as well have said they'd build a casino with all revenue going to pay for stadium.

Ok , whatever.

That plan must be able to generate enough revenues for the Bombers to be profitable andbe able to pay back a significant portion of the stadium costs.

i like this nugget . So let me get this st4raight, somehow they have to study this to ensure a team with an operating budget of say 15 million ( with profits in the thousands, when they have one )can make enough profit to pay for a Stadium.

Fck, this is getting more ridiculous as each new grand plan comes to the table. And now Selinger must apporve condo's ?

You know tis very simple. Just take a loan out and have the province pay for it. Period, forget about the City , forget about Creswin. Takje out 300 Million , put it out to tender and get it built. "Tax " the fans, take some bgambling rev's, some PST, make some cuts here and there and stop fiddling .

We look like major league bumpkins.

This will bring too much traffic to wreck the St james street, which is in dire needs of repair today!

But think of all the business Rosen. you might be able to move back to Wellington Cres, on the right side of the street this time

I disagree with you Liv.

No tax money should go to sports facilities imo.

They shouldn' t even be on the list when we have a crumbling infrastructure.

The government has always had a weird way of working imo....when we have roads that are turning to dust what do we do....build more new roads. Rolling Eyes

JTF, I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that I to am against using tax dollars. I much prefer direct public investment.

I make the statement about borrowing the money and just building it becasue i am sick and tired of watching and listening to these "leaders" come up with plan after plan until they run out of time and just force some garbage on the public.

Yes, getting 300 million on the table and opening up to tender is perhaps the most reasonable thin rather than convoluting an issue that should not be an issue.

Imagine, the blue Bomber board, this sack of garbage, is still at the table. Give me a break.

I take it all back JTF, i agree with you. Sports stadiums should be funded by those that use it and want one . Same goes for most any venue , until such a time that infrastructure issues have been dealt with. ( its not like anyone is going to move away or move here, or get a higher paying job etc etc etc becasue we have a ballet or symphony or NHL team )

Exactly.

This stadium deal represents all that is wrong with the NDP government.

let me get this straight. Edmonton seated 63 THOUSAND for the game......and, we are building a 33 Thousand seat stadium

Am I missing something ?

I've revamped my seating capacity for the Fractional ownership (a good software seating package would come in handy. )...I am adding 2000 seats for kids under 12 , free entrance.- 500 seats per corner, during Grey Cup , that would bring the seating capacity to 48 thousand. Also thinking some people would buy tickets for comfy standing room spots around the stadium. of course disabled will be at field level, and they would get in for free.

Hmmmm, another thought, a seating messaging service to order food, delivered to you while you watch and billed to your account.

One of the fast food joints could sponsor the seats.

Edmonton averages in the high 30's per game during the season. I'd bet that if they were to build a new stadium today, without a Commonwealth games or World University Games in the offing they'd not be building a 63k seat stadium.

Remember the first Grey Cup held in Winnipeg? We sat 55k~ for that game and get by in a stadium that seats 30k. I think the Bombers could seat more but 20 years of futility and a pathetic excuse of a venue all conspire against that achievement...
