heh.. not only that he is poor at math.

$4million per year for 40 years is 160 million.

They are "only" on hook for 85 million according to all other news reports.

depends on what "on the hook" means...

Basically the province is funding a new stadium, and the bombers are supposed to pay some of that money back...except when they can't, in which case it'll be years later when no-one still remembers or cares about this fiasco and the debts will be "forgiven"...

...Maybe that's how we can get some of that Apser money back....get him pay naming rights for the stadium! There's some synergies there...and irony's! lol

Interest on the original 85 million. Question

Amazing still is that we are believing that the Bumbers can service $4,000,000 a year of debt for the 40 year term.

WTF... are we crazy to even be considering this without wearing clown noses????

hmm.. perhaps?... 4.5% at 40 years does essentially double it.

Who cares? They cannot service it period.

wow...I'm shocked.

This a.m. I wrote a email to my city counselor stating my opinion that this deal stinks, and that I would vote NO to this new deal, especially since council only has two days to look at the plan and then immediately vote on it.

This councilor actually called me a few moments ago to talk about it. That's far more contact then I ever got from the former councilor...Lilian Thomas never called, never wrote...she did however have one of her lackey-staffers call on her behalf...

So anyway, kudos to Thomas Steen for actually having the brass to contact me and talk about it. He still figures it's a "good deal" and kept repeating that line. I asked if his vote was in the Yes or No column, he said he hadn't made up his mind as he's still speaking to constituents today. (sounded like a Yes, he was trying to convince me this was something it isn't)

Anyway, he says he figures it's a great deal for the city because currently the existing stadium doesn't pay property taxes, and that land will be sold (proceeds of which are to pay for new stadium) and the new whatever that occupies that property will then be paying property taxes (I also checked with him to see if that land will be for sale to anyone with a large enough pocket book...or if it was going to be a closed bid or something stupid...he claims it will be a proper sale and @ market value) and as he says "we're getting a brand new stadium for $17 million...

There's more...but I gotta get back to work! lol

100% VLT revenues from their Bar and lounge will certainly help.

Never mind all the food and beverage revenues they will be bringing in.

Can you imagine how much better the team would be right now if they had just given them that opportunity 5 years ago?

Just askin'.
Well, you know, it just might be a good idea.
Smile
If this is supposed to be benefit of the new stadium, they did not just scrap the bottom of the barrel, they actually went through the bottom of the barrel. Sad
Can you please decypher your comment into common English so we can all understand it. Thanks.

Dean. Do you really believe that the Bumbers can service 4 mil..even with all the concession you want to stick into the joint?

You buy into Bernie's business plan?? lol (he's got a great track record eh...)

Winnipeggers will not pay $10 for a beer or $12 for a hot dog.

he says "we're getting a brand new stadium for $17 million...

Siggghhhh...Did he not calculate all the deferred City tax going to pay off the loan ? The CBC said that was is the neighborhood of 75 million over 45 years....thats how the deal is structured.

Another idiotic statement ( CJOB or CBC ) ) if we don't sign for the 190 Million NOW NOW NOW the price will go up....how do you know its not goign to go up regardless, is there something set in stone.

As for Asper, sighhhh. Can we not tell him to take his little floor plans and just go away. i mean, he screwed the bid. He shouldn't get a penny. On the other hand, we should bill him for wasting our time and resources trying to make this deal work for him.

Good on Wyatt for saying NO. Maybe we can get to square one and have a serious discussion about this new stadium.

I would like to enter my bid to keep the Polo Park land as the stadium site. Purchase it outright for 15 million from the City and develop 2000 Condo's ( well they said it was ok ) . They can act as supports for the roof, plus condo owners get to own a seat in the stadium or if can be sunk low enough, condo owners get a balcony view of all events.- plus noise is free.

I would buy into that condo plan in a minute. That would be awesome.

What if they gave the food concession business to Hooters? Would that bring 'em in?

Yes there's a direct correlation. Pull 'em out equals pull 'em in.

JTf.. I aint talking concession stands.

I am thinking they probably got the same deal as the MTS centre.

100 or so VLTs and 100% of the profit with nothing going anywhere else.

It will be a sports bar, bar none. Why? who is going to complain about the noise? no one, because they are going to aim the bar away from the housing.

A bar at the new stadium would draw a ton of thirsty university students, among others.

Dean , no matter what they do, they can't finance this thing Best to just get taxpayers to pay for it and be up front with it.....heck, MPIC may even pay 30 Million for naming rights. Thrown in a few 10 million form Hydro and the parking Authority, and hey, maybe WHRA forks over a few mill and voila, government paid nothing.......so they like to tell me.

I'm sure the Forks Northportage whatever the fck they call it can also contribute...another arms lengths, ah, Centreventure can be squeezed for a couple;e of mill, who else, ....any other tax funded Corporation wearing the emperors clothes.

VLT's will only come into play if they get a Credit union to loan them 50 million and the government agree to finance the debt payment through gauranteed VLT rev's.....oh sorry, thought we were talking about the True North.

In the letter, Couns. Ross Eadie (Mynarski), Jenny Gerbasi (FortRouge), John Orlikow (River Heights), Mike Pagtakhan (Point Douglas),Harvey Smith (Daniel McIntyre) and Russ Wyatt (Transcona) say they willnot allow the stadium report to be walked on to council because thestadium project is now financed entirely by public funds and there wasno public consultation about the changes.

My money is on Mike switching sides.

funny how the NDP councillors are voting against a NDP provincially brokered deal eh?

or not so funny as it gives the premier a "safe" way out of this deal.

"not my fault" the deal died

its an interesting litmus test for the new council eh? 6 NDP councillors. it aint enough to actually stop stuff from going forward if it is brought forward properly. But they sure can make it painful.

So now Katz has called a Special Council meeting just so he can force a vote on this.

Sad day for democracy in Winnipeg when we cant even have proper study and debate on something so expensive.

Almost looks like it was done this way on purpose and planned to fall like this since May of this year.

Aside from the issue itself, this is just the beginning of the antics of the "official opposition" at Council. Four long years of putting up with this sh1t.
