have fun with that while the steering wheel is turning left eh?

So on a left turn you never signal left. It involves turning 270 degrees to the left, while twice signalling right.

Traffic is always calm and there are never any accidents when professional drivers drive on a professional traffic circle - AKA NASCAR.

Note: Yes, I am deliberately being a dick there. Internet debate meets NASCAR. Go figure.

Do traffic circles affect emergency vehicles?

If such a vehicle approaches the circle and needs to turn left, they must turn right until they can enter the street they want.

If they were to turn left, that could cause a problem if there was traffic in the circle.

Just a thought.

the fire truck and bus went straight through these intersections without any problem (and no signalling) on the video this morning!

heh.. no disclaimer needed.. I think the conversation is fodder for a monty python sketch

so I need to signal left to turn left, right?
wrong, you signal right twice to turn right.
but I want to go left not right.
right. but you go right to go left, right?
what?

I believe that if we all start signalling in those circles, it'll really confuse people.

You're really 'going straight' but signalling a turn??? It's bound to cause confusion and collisions.

How long of a detour is that right turn that the vehicle needs to make? Right now when an emergency vehicle gets to an intersection they slow down and make sure it's clear. No different here.

When approaching a roundabout you will see this roundabout sign.
Reduce your speed to the posted speed limit or slower and be
prepared to yield to pedestrians/cyclists and vehicles in
the roundabout. When no traffic is approaching from
the left you may proceed into the roundabout. When
on the roundabout you have the right-of-way over
vehicles entering, continue until you reach the street
you wish to exit. Signal your intentions to exit before you
reach the street you wish to exit onto. As you exit, watch for
pedestrians within the pedestrian corridor and yield the right-of-way
to pedestrians/cyclists.

Yeah, you definitely have to signal. Otherwise people think you're going to keep going around. If you're going straight and don't signal, people will assume you were intending to make a left turn and will stay stopped even if they could actually go.

Deank wrote:I get tons of positive response at the door, I have people calling me and recommending changes to my brochures that will help more and people genuinely seem to like what I am talking about.

trouble is, I have me, my wife and kids as the only people out there and a full time job. hard to get to everyone, even harder now with the knee problems. So some sort of coverage from the media would help, but they have basically completely ignored our ward.

The shaw videos are not well advertised and for whatever reason they neglected to tell me when they were going to air so I never had a chance to really tell anyone about them and their are no debates/forums set for our area..

Sure the times, CBC, Freep, Sun and others have talked to us, but hardly a blip has resulted. I talked to the guy from the times for about 20-30 minutes and it resulted in about 10 words showing up.

It seems the media has decided to ignore our ward because they think Mike winning is a done deal so why waste time and then they wonder why there is voter apathy.

I know it's becoming late and we're both busy, but I can still do something for Politicsrespun.org for you, which feeds out to 1000+ subscribers, over 2000 Twitter subscriber between Buckley's account and my account, and then we can push it out with #winnipeg tags and #winnipegpoli tags for larger dissemination. My problem is that I don't know anything about WPG politics or your ward to ask you intelligent questions. If I do interview you/profile Point Douglas, I really want to do it justice and call attention to it. I'll ping you some preliminary stuff later tonight and maybe you will be able to spoon feed me enough to create a strong piece.

Do I follow you/do you follow me already? I'm @thesourpuss. Maybe you can pick up some of the feed tomorrow if I get something up by end of Friday.
#mbpoli is also a useful hashtag. We could start a #pointdouglas hash too.

Oh man, it would be like that scene from Footloose over and over again. That'll show those Saskatchewanites for wanting to dance.

#3 is WRONG.

It's supposed to say "Yield to vehicles ALREADY IN the circle".

The design of a REAL circle, is that more than one vehicle may be traveling around it at any given time.

Comments from British Columbians on the newspaper links to cam footage inside the traffic circles:

"Are you saying that people from Winnipeg actually consider a traffic circle hazardous?"

and

"These people can figure out Confusion Corner, but not a round-about?"

Again, it's the ridiculous misnomer that implies that these are actually legitimate traffic circles.
