So, things are looking rough down here in River Heights. Yesterday the following robberies happened:

Scotia Bank? (600 block Corydon)
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/-Man-threatens-to-begin-shooting-while-robbing-city-bank-41835882.html

Garwood Grill (435 Pembina)
Joy's Conveinece (248 River)
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Two-sought-after-robberies-within-minutes--of-each-other-41836742.html

So much for safety and security Sad .

How are ANY of those places anywhere NEAR North end? All the incident locations are within a 5 block radius of Confusion Corner (Osbourne Junction)

That's really Crescentwood -- between Confusion Corner and Cambridge along Corydon...

River Heights doesn't start until west of that.

Newbies. Arrggghh

Actually jimj_wpg, the area in question is Fort Rouge! Crescentwood begins west of Stafford I believe.

That said I can see how wpg_idiot could make that mistake. Google "winnipeg neighbourhood map" and you'll find several census maps that says River Heights is indeed the area west of Confusion Corner. Those are census/electoral boundaries. But I can say that the area west of CC to Stafford has NEVER EVER been River Heights and is not today.

Not sure why the census/electoral boundaries have been so labeled.

I have always felt that I should arm myself like a small army on corydon. I don't know why, I just never feel safe down there.

You kind of expect a car load of guys to drive by with Tommy guns and shoot up a sidewalk cafe, missing all the people but killing every flower pot in site.

"The police need more money for officers and equipment "

oh man I hope you are not referring to Winnipeg when you say we need more officers. Holy frick we have more per capita then almost any other city 500K and above in population.

But how many per capita counting only those that habitually break the law?

I don't work at Rona any more, so I can't get the special letterhead stationery.

Actually, I was requesting the ratio of all police officers per law-breaking citizen.

yeah at least its 1 to 1.... we seriously have a crazy amount of cops going after the same people over and over.

its not more cops we need.. its a more effective justice system once the cops nail the perps.

we have adult 150 people in jail for every 100K people in manitoba
we have 206 youth in jail for every 100K youth in the province

we have 205 police officers currently working for every 100K people in the province.

It's the ones NOT in jail that are the problem.
