Why is a hospital giving an award out like this..
and does this actually cost money? Or is it just a way of getting teh ST B name into people's heads for donations?

Sounds like pure marketing 101. This type of association is priceless and gets worldwide exposure for the foundation. It's all good IMO...

I do question whether or not it is worth spending money on this sort of thing, nice as the exposure is. Does it make the donors to the St. B. give more? give anything? meh.

I'm a meat and potatoes guy, and think the money would be better spent on a trip to Costa Rica or another MRI, but that just me. I don't see the benefit, other than to stroke the fundraisers, and that's not a good enough reason to me.

so like they pay the guy to come in and accept and award and have a dinner and such? Or do they just tell him about it ... or???

I think they have a big fundraising dinner and pay the 'guest speaker' his going rate...a good chunk of change I'd imagine...but I'm just speculating though.

The guest speaker probably gets paid. I don't believe the honoree gets a stipend though.

The ROI of marketing can be nebulous at times. In this case I'd be willing to bet they've done due diligence and calculated $$$ donated as a result of such events. Of course there is the event itself that raises big big bucks.

J2F, you're quite cynical about this type of thing. Ever give anyone the benefit of the doubt??? Very Happy

Without knowing the specifics of this event, but knowing the kind of operation that the St B runs, this is probably a major fundraising event. You would probably need the St B ER if you say the price of the tickets.
