That just shows us that there are others out there who feel this museum is a bunch of BS. I would much rather see that money going to something else...like LRT or something that'll benefit everyone!

I hate to bring this up, but could the museum have it's own political agenda? I mean if you look at the National Post (coincidentally owned by the Aspers), you will not get an impartial look at the events in the Middle East.

Media watchdogs have singled out the NP as the most bias Newspaper in Canada. The Palestineans are almost always referred to as "terroritsts", yet Israel can do no wrong, according to it's editors. I believe there were cases of people who worked for the Post being fired or demoted for trying to paint a more accurate portrayl of Middle Eastern events.
Which brings me to the obvious question. How will the Palestineans be portrayed at the new Human Rights museum? Or will they be portrayed at all? Israel continues to deny the Palestineans living in the occupied terrorities these rights, despite the UN pressuring them to do so.
So there you have it. Expect Human Rights abuses that Israel has committed against the Palestineans to be glossed over, or even not mentioned at all at the new museum.

I think its one of the things alot of groups are playing a wait and see game on the HRM... will they show the middle east conflict from all sides.. one side... or none.... will it be missing from the museum?

Great leap to a conclusion.

The Aspers are Jewish. They have their opinion as to who is right in the Israel/Palestine conflict. Is their opinion any less acceptable than yours? I'm not aware of a NP policy of removing pro-Palestine or anti-Jewish commentary. I suppose it could be true. That would only undermine the Aspers credibility.

As to what agenda the museum board will follow remains to be seen. But if these people want this museum to be taken seriously they need to create an open-minded process whereby all human rights are considered.

Bingo! What will this museum consist of? Human rights abuses in Israel? USA? Canada? China? What?

Do you think they'll make room for any other exhibit?

The only planned exhibit that I know of is the one described in the Federal legislation that made the museum a federal institution. I don't have the exact wording in front of me, but it's basically the largest holocaust gallery in Canada.

"It will house the largest museum gallery in Canada devoted to the subject of the Holocaust"

I understood that human rights abuses from around the world and from the beginning of time were to form the raison d'être for the museum.

From the CMHR Web Site
The exhibits at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will feature six overarching messages:

  • Human Rights are about how we can be different from one another and still live together in dignity and equality.
  • History is filled with the consequences of one group of people defining another
as “other” or “less than” themselves; discrimination, exclusion, violence, loss.
  • There have always been people who resisted oppression and people who have spoken out against those who would oppress others.
  • Although the ideas of justice and equality have been part of many cultures and
traditions, the modern idea of Human Rights emerged as a response to the Holocaust.
  • All nations, including Canada, need to recognize the positive and negative legacies of their histories regarding the treatment of different groups in order to move forward with empathy and respect.
  • Human Rights require everyone’s commitment and effort.

We need a museum to explain all this to us?

Do we need any museum to explain anything to us? Do we need a Rock n' Roll museum?

Who decided that we needed to have this museum, which looks like it's going to be a massive white elephant?

Who, exactly, decided?

Ummmm YES we need a Rock N Roll museum more then this Human Rights thing. Music enlightens, music makes people happy and music makes the world go round!

I did not say we need the museum Rock n' Roll MORE. I was questioning the need altogether. I was being factious.

BTW I'd love to see the Canadian Rock n' Roll Museum here in Winnipeg. It would do the city good to have such a museum located here.

Ummm Harper, Evil Doer, Shammy Katz, the Aspers, the folks that donated $105 million dollars. Others that support it.

I guess nobody really.

Is there still time to convince the Aspers that a Rock & Roll Museum would be in the best interests of all Winnipeggers?

I don't recall being asked if I was for or against this museum. There should've been a vote....asking if you support this museum. Let the people decide NOT the politicians and Gail Asper.

There could have easily been a vote. I'm concerned that their attendance figures have gone from 800,000 to 250,000 in the last two years. Sounds like they're admitting something.

Where are they supposed to find the stuff to put on exhibit in the museum? Anything out there is already heavily controlled and already shown on display in other monuments or museums...
Are we gonna fill the museum with photos?

Here's a website of the national monument here in Trieste:

When was the last time any Canadian was asked about any major project?

That should change. They should pose a question on a ballot when we are at the polls voting for PM for national issues and Premier for provincial issues.
