Anyone know if the 5 day cycle is going to be changed to a 10 day cycle? What an incredible saving on garbage pick up costs that would be!
No more 2 men at $10 per hour(city paid is appx $18) running behind that BFI truck!
No living wage paid by BFI? Does anyone know?

still a 5 day cycle.. possibly will go to 10 day for recycling (dumb idea)
City has not employed garbage workers for a number of years now and has definately not employed them in our area for alot longer then any other area of the city.

I got mine the other day.

Kinda small. ah well at least some neighbours have actually said they will be starting to recycle now because of them!

The biggest problem I have with them is that there is always vehicles parked on my street. AND its a bus route SO,... I am not sure how well this will work with vehicles on one side and Garbage bins on the other.. and the buses going up and down the street.
There is also that it tells me if there is no room next to the curb ( because of parked cars ) I should put it at the end of my driveway. The problem with that being that say I want to leave before the garbage has been picked up. I then need to move it, backup and park in the middle of the street, get out blocking traffic, move it back and proceed on again. Getting out of my driveway in the morning can be hard enough to time there is so much traffic. Not sure how this will play out.

I guess thinking about it, another problem that might creep up. What if there are no cars parked when I place the can out there, but then they come afterwards and park to close to the can. who would be to blame for that? Would they still pick up my garbage anway?

Listening to the radio this morning...some of the parameters include:

All cans must be placed on one side of the lane/street only (ie. side the cars don't park on).
All cans cannot face backwards on towards the street. The cans can dump from 3 of its 4 sides.

On the radio, I heard the carts will hold 3- 24 x 36 bags. I find that hard to believe.

I've seen some on the street just off of Jefferson ave, between pipeline and sheppard. They look smaller than I thought they would be.

I just might have to hide some garbage at the bottom of my recycling bin. I wonder if the sorters will like cat poo?

I just had an idea...lets all take our garbage to DeanK's house and see how much we can stuff in his new bin!! Then we can go for lunch after.

nope.... the brochure does not state this at all. in fact it gives instructions for placing it at least 1 metre in front of our behind parked cars.

umm.. most of the stuff I throw out is no where near edible....so I hope you are bringing something good... or were you maybe suggesting we go and eat something somewhere else?

They interviewed the liaison guy from the city on CBC a couple days ago...it was one of the things he mentioned about it.

Question was what changes will people have to get used to...his comment was that the cans all had to go on one side of the street, so those from the other side would have to get used to crossing the street with their garbage.

He was asked how picky the trucks are about picking up the cans...his comment was that it will pick them up no matter how they are positioned, but if they are facing backwards, there is known issue that the cans won't open and the trash won't come out.
