WRHA CEO Dr. Brian Postl said equipment suppliers, joint suppliers and drug companies have tried to influence health organizations for a long time, .......

For the record. I work for a medical equipment supplier. We are all required to take Anit Kick Back Anti Fraud training. Which for the most part is simple common sense. However It is stated quite directly that we are not even allowed to give out Tshirts or golf balls with our company name on it.

But then again, our product is so good, we dont need to bribe people to take it, they willingly pay more because the competition is not even close.

I agree...pure corruption,or, set up to allow for it. Either way...absolute bullsh*t!!

Notice the wildly differing amounts for a couple of years...

2000-2001: $5,311,070
2001-2002: $5,765,507
2002-2003: $177, 068
2003 -2004: $566,569
2004-2005: $2,215,095
2005-2006: $1,413,293
2006-2007: $4,583,104
2007-2008: $90,000
What's up with that?

Airlines do it cars do it most big companies do and do you know all the ins and outs of decisions made behind your back Dean.
I really don't agree with it unless it strictly monitored and controlled but this started in the soft drink industry

I know that we do NOT do it at our company, why? Because we are a multinational company and in some countries even the thought of it lands the directors of the company in jail or death.

O I agree but you might be surprissed by how many companies do it , as a way of bussiness . Dean it can be even considered as better placement in the store or as building a park bench . When huge contracts are there it becomes part of the bid added value as they call it .

WRHA is not a private business, it is merely an arm of government. No way should this be happening.

It's the "system". As long as someone isn't filling his/her bank account with that money, and the accounting books are fully documented, then it's just extra revenue.

Yes even at work it might be reps coming in 2 or 3 times a year for demos for free , in the case of groceries placement in the store , Merchandise is usaully mostly but not only their product for free or donated to certain things . It is not as uncommon as most might think.

It may well be more prevalent than we understand. It is still very wrong.

I don't care if some tool rep spiffs you a wrench. I do care that some drug company is handing out brown envelopes to WRHA purchasers. That is not value add. That is bribery.

As for the notion of value add. If it is directly related to the product that is fine. Anything else is not.

The drug companies do this also for better placement , it may be wrong but lets not act like we did not know of its existence in life . Come on Yes it is wrong but people it happens at so many levels.

So what else is going on there that we don't know about?

Now I'm getting a better idea of why our health care system is so fcuked up.

It's being run by crooks. Yup, imho, crooks best says it.

Who else would allow, and set-up I might add, a corrupt system whereby all kinds of stuff is being done under the table? Crooks need a system like this and they have it.

Your point being? Seriously. Why the frick are you ragging on people because they may not have known this was so prevalent? Like, come on.

Instead why not rag on the people that are perpetrating this immoral act?

I don't get this misplaced angst.

Whatever.

Jim. In the next few days, Doer will come out and say he was not aware of the practice, and huff and puff a while, and tell us that he has ordered that this practice be stopped.

That, to me, will indicate that this was wrong and never should have been allowed to have happened.

Heads should role over this imo, but, of course, they won't. Slap slap wink wink....'nuf said.

This is not a matter of agreeing with me. I really don't care. My point was and is about who knows that this is going on. I don't understand what the mere fact that this has been going on for a long time has to do with anything.

It is still wrong isn't it? Or is it acceptable?

That is what I'm getting at.

This practice is wrong, 100% wrong. I bet these guys are piised now that it got out to the public. Dothing and his crew of screw ups should be totally embarrassed and ashamed of what is going on. It is not relevant as to what happens in the private sector, THIS IS AN INSTITUTION RUN ON PUBLIC MONEY. There is a massive difference.

The first one of these assholes that says something to the effect "That this happens all the time in the private sector" should be forced to explain how WRHA resembles anything in the private sector.

Some can't get their heads around the fact that the WHRA is not a private fiefdom.
