It sure looks like they were racing. Damage like that just dont magically happen.
The cops dont just say...ooo we need to wait to figure this one out.. unless something is not right. Every cop car is tracked via GPS they can tell exactly what those cars were doing within a matter of mere hours if not minutes.
Check back in the news a few years, everytime cops are involved in an accident caused by acutally investigating a crime they say what happened almost immediatley. So why not know?

What Union do you speak of?
My understanding is that "Essential Services" here are not allowed to have a 'union' because they aren't allowed to strike...or is that just the federal level (RCMP, military)?
They have an "association", but that has no real power.

The PA has much more power then you'd imagine. They would be the first point of contact for these officers and would be advised as to what they should and should not do given the circumstances.

Unions (by legal definition) have certain standards and abilities. One of those is the ability to call a strike motion.
My understanding of an "Association" is that it's more like a "club". It has advisors and people to provide assistance at various levels...but no REAL power.

Ages Ages Ages.. not all unions can call a strike motion. Nto having the ability to strike does not mean it is not a union. Essentially all a union is, is a collective bargaining body. Regardless of what you want to call it the Winnipeg police do indeed have a union.

The Winnipeg Police Association is not technically a union, but it is basically acts as a union. And I'm sure that WPS reps were at the hospital before senior police officers and investigators were. May not be right, may not like it, but thats the way it is.

I find it a tad disconcerting that there was no description of the vehicle they were 'chasing'....
Surely, they would want to find this vehicle as soon as possible, for their investigation.... 'the car' is a pretty generic description.
Part of the investigation, police said, is figuring out if either car
had emergency lights or sirens engaged before the crash. The car police
were pursuing has not been located.

Agreed. It would seem likely that a full description of the car and what was known of its' occupants would have been broadcast to other officers/HQ (wherever such things might be broadcast to). Police MUST follow all rules of the road in an emergency. That means making SURE the intersection is safe to enter, lights and siren not-withstanding. No matter how anyone tries to spin this someone made a mistake. Now handle it like the mistake was made by you or me.

This is quite true...they are actually REQUIRED to stop at an intersection where a light is red in their direction...whether in pursuit or not.
Not all do, nor would most people hold it against them in the line of duty...unless something happens...something like this.
