I bet you the discussion will hear 57 people complaining that the streets cannot possibly handle the trafffic!
I have heard some Wpg bureaucrat complaining this AM on the CBC that the City is going too fast! What is the rush he said. It is only 3 months since something happened and in Toronto it takes 9 months. That is enough of a reason for me to vote to slow down Wpg's growth.
Apparently Polo Park is 1,500,000 sq ft and this proposal is 1,200,000 sq ft, another good reason to slow down!
I think everyone should get out because this proposal has so many bad things!
1) 400 jobs for the store
2) developing empty space into retail space
3) impacting the rabbits and ducks that live there
4) getting tax dollars into the city's coffers- the city doesn't need any more tax dollars, as they mess up what they get now
5) Who needs a $12,000,000 work project(guesstimate) to build it
6) The blacktop parking lot will cause huge problems with global warming, because the blacktop absorbs the sun's heat ( that is why it is -24 right now instead of ------------------------23.999999999999999999999999999999 that it would be without global warming ( lol)

What have I missed?
6) Wpg doesn't have experienced workers to handle this job

you have missed that it is far too cold out and people have way too many other things already on the go so not many people of any real substance will show up.

Damn it I wanted to go, but not if I will be considered a people of no real substance! That is so funny! And so accurate!

It is only another store what is the big deal.

Surely another Crown Corporation or arm of the government could put the space to better use. These bloody retailers will open their store and then expect us to actually go there an spend money. What a crock! SAVE THE DUCKS!!

How about an urban reserve instead?

The comments on this article are hilarious! (Besides the complaining about traffic lights).

Especially the one from someone who moved to Charleswood to escape urban sprawl! Deliciously ironic! You contributed to it! LOL

or the one about.. lets tear down homes near polo park and build this???????

sheeeesh.... I would have to say that person has not ever been near polo park after 4pm on weekday or almost any weekend... I shudder to think what is going to happen to that area if asker ever gets to purchase the land and build even more retail there.

Are you sure it's part of the deal?

I thought that it went up for offers?

Guest

Are you kidding it is part of the deal the biggest part . Asper doesn't want it without it .

It is also why the arena site went to Shindico no bids or public process.

Where they are planning development is actually pretty ideal for IKEA.

IKEAs primary customers are Yuppies, DINKs, and Retirees.

All of which surround that intersection in all directions. Certainly more so than most any other section of the city.

Considering there are more than 1/2 dozen retirement communities with another 3 slated for development along Sterling Lyon/Wilkes...the customer base for construction is perfect.
