because the coroner did not feel like being sued by the taZer company like they have sued coroners in the past?

Pretty good summation of the event! I wonder if any RCMP officer will ever say, "we were too lazy", and made a huge error in judgement, we are so sorry for the pain that we have inflicted!

How can the RCMP recover from something like this?

They will. We have short memories. And we are forgiving.

This would have been forgotten by now if 1) they did not lie so outrageously at the time and b) they did not lie so outrageously at the inquiry.

You're an optimist GOM. I think they've lost the confidence of the average person myself.

Use-of-force expert tells inquiry officers' reaction to Dziekanski reasonable. " A police expert said"- surprise, surprise!

Sergeant Brad Fawcett of the Vancouver Police Department said because the officers believed Mr. Dziekanski was about to attack them or someone else with a stapler, they had reasonable grounds to use the taser.

What is so stupid is this report from the police officer is dependent on what the RCMP minds were thinking, which was taken from their written report. their written report has been hung up to dry, because it was so false, a complete made-up story not at all consistent with what has been shown to really have happen, according to the video.

It amazes me, the mindset of the officers involved. how do we get to trust them?

Mountie defends inaccurate info at Taser inquiry

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

VANCOUVER — The Mountie in charge of the unit that investigated Robert Dziekanski’s death says he didn’t correct inaccurate information released to the public because it was unlikely to impact potential witnesses.
Supt. Wayne Rideout of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team told an inquiry into Dziekanski’s death that he was trying to protect the integrity of the case by not releasing any further information.
The RCMP initially said the would-be Polish immigrant was stunned twice but later revealed the Taser had been deployed five times.
Rideout said the information wasn’t corrected because the RCMP would have been criticized if the four officers involved were ultimately charged and proceeded to trial.
He says the details would then have been debated in the public domain.
Dziekanski died after being stunned with a Taser during a confrontation with Mounties at the international arrivals area of Vancouver airport, where he’d been throwing furniture.

What Rideout said doesn't make sense to me....just like the other RCMP that said he wasn't giving accurate information. Isn't that called PERJURY? Smile

JTF - good point, but the person talking to the public can lie, and it isn't perjury because they are not statements being sworn in court!
But JTF you should try and get all officers , before they talk to the public, swear in before they give any information! What a great idea! that would end all information coming out from the RCMP! lol

I'm referring to what they said in court Rosen. I figure that giving BS when you know it's BS is perjury no?

And so Quicck!! An apology from the RCMP

OTTAWA -- The RCMP's second-in-command issued a direct apology Monday for the "tragic death" of Robert Dziekanski, saying the police service wants to learn from its mistakes and refocus training so that officers use force as a last resort.
"We are very sorry for Mr. Dziekanski's death," William Sweeney, the senior deputy commissioner, told a Senate committee studying RCMP reforms.
"We are committed to learning as much as possible from the circumstances surrounding his tragic death."

You have to wonder what happens mentally to a Mounty when something like the taser death occurs? Could it be that the training is at fault? Could it be the Taser company that continues to say tasering is non lethal? Could it be that they do not know that multiple tasers are more dangerous? Could it be that they just happened happened to be a little lazy?

Cops recommend charges against Mountie in crash
By THE CANADIAN PRESS
VANCOUVER — Police say they’ve finished their investigation into a fatal car accident and are recommending two charges against one of the RCMP officers involved in shocking Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver’s airport.
Police in Delta, B.C., say they have forwarded a report to the Crown about the Oct. 25, 2008 accident that took the life of Orion Hutchinson.
Police are now awaiting approval of charges of impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death against RCMP officer Cpl. Monty Robinson.
Robinson was one of four officers involved in a confrontation with Dziekanski at Vancouver airport in October 2007, during which Dziekanski was shocked with a Taser and died.
Robinson and the other three officers do not face charges in relation to Dziekanski’s death.
The officer was off-duty when his vehicle allegedly collided with 21-year-old Hutchinson’s motorcycle.

Legal ruling could halt RCMP Taser Inquiry
You have to love the way the legal system works! After spending $16 million dollars the 4 RCMP officer's lawyers are trying to shut the inquiry from announcing any findings of misconduct!
Everything is arguable! The public wants answers!
