so now they are crying foul..
there is no reason the Cable companies should have to pass the fee on to consumers says som Fecan asshole

http://business.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090501.wrcrtc01art1941/BNStory/Business/home?cid=al_gam_mostview

"If the [cable and satellite carriers] insist on holding subscribers hostage, perhaps it is time to regulate basic cable rates again," Mr. Fecan said."

Who is trying to hold us hostage Mr Fecan? The Cable company that is playing by the rules? Or you who want to steal money from someone else because you dont know how to run a business?

I say the cable companies have been stealing signals for 30ish years. There are two sides to this issue I believe.

how are they stealing something thats Free? and that they give preferred channel access to and that delivers a better quality signal to more homes so that they can claim a wider audience which gives them better ad revenues?

they most certainly are... they just need to give up their current broadcast license and wait for a speciality one. oo wait thats right, they dont want to do that.

No CBC can not stop neither can CTV over air broadcast is a condition of their licence. So that areas with out cable get TV . May change in the future but not right now.

Read what I wrote Pav... they can give up their license and then yes they can stop broadcasting over the air.

Just like CTV just did in 3 cites across the country for $1 per license Shaw purchased them... and Shaw has offered that same deal to all other licensees.. $1 and they will buy your license and station.

Brandon was sold because it has been trying to unload it for years , it was losing money Cable has nothing to do with it and on air had nothing to do with it . Dean the cable companies take your signal and rebroadcast it for free , make money from it . They take on the signal of Discovery Channel they pay a fee to them for it , then rebroadcast it . They have no facilities to produce or contribute to the cost of producing it . Shaw is trying to become the new player on the block by buying money losing stations , they will still have to broadcast on air there. As that is the licence requirement for CKX .

The practice of paying for signal is nothing new the cable companies in the States do it all the time . The CRTC has seen fit to allow the cable companies up here to get away with theft , It is time for this to end .

Looks like the shareholders are screwed as the bondholders now call the shots.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/bondholders-now-call-the-shots-at-canwest/article1145292/

The restructuring puts the bondholders in charge of many of the decisions surrounding CanWest's assets.
Other investors, including Fairfax Financial, owner of 22 per cent of the company's non-voting shares, will likely be left out in the cold if CanWest's common equity gets wiped out.

Canwest shares will open at 2 cents tomorrow, and then the Aspers will use their money to buy all the shares and start over!
This was the plan!

It's been hovering around 0.15 for a while now. I think that the shareholders saw the writing on the wall.

At least Izzy wasn't alive to see this day.

Brandon was one of the stations Shaw offered to buy, but then reneged on their offer.

because when they got there and looked at the station they realized that the owners had gutted the place and were brodcasting almost everything from an alternate location.
