I think y'all should have pick Ledo's proposal. Although I think that the U of M is the best place for a new stadium.

Do you think that Canwest's bankruptcy will have an impact on the new Bombers' stadium?

No. Canwest and Creswin are two separate companies.

Same people though. Lenny appears to be having a very difficult time getting anyone to sign for the project. Who wouldn't be shy to place money on him eh?

Dave Asper has repeatedly said that the fortunes of Canwest have no bearing on the his stadium/ retail space proposal.

Retail in Winnipeg is strong. The location is prime. The design looks appealing.

Seems to me that retail folks have little to risk. They don't have to throw money at anything until bricks and mortar are in place...

Regardless of what Creswin thinks the IKEA operation will have a bigger draw for retail then this project of theirs. High end retail, yada yada yada... whatever. Can anyone name 3 major HIGH END retails that we would want?

Anyway... Canwest being "dead" has no bearing on Creswin other then people might look at it and say... no way am I dealing with someone who drove that business to its knees they dont know how to make good decisions.

IKEA would outperform any retail model in any city with very few exceptions. Add Winnipeg's well-known penchant for frugality and it is no contest.

Grumpy.......how many times you figure Izzy has spun in his grave by now? A sad state of affairs when the children squander Dad's legacy.

Thing is I have not a clue how that company would have performed in this business climate under Izzy. Other very important media companies have gone under as a result. Still others are retrenching as is Canwest.

How do you get to put up a thread at 8:26 P.M. , when my clock says 7:27 P.M.?

No. You are an hour behind the rest of us. You do realize that your gazebo is not in our time zone don't you?

But I am up in my bedroom- I froze to death a few hours ago outside!
Maybe it is the time zone change being on the outside of the band width?

Umm. What does this mean? They ARE the same company? Creswin owes CanWest money? Creswin owed CanWest money? CanWest is an investor in Creswin?

Please elaborate...

The real question is...are the Aspers close to broke?

Canwest was a financial backer of creswin. Canwest is now in creditor protection. Therefor CresWin needs to get backing from others, as big brother is broke.

As Trinman has already said, Dave Asper has repeatedly said that the fortunes of Canwest have no bearing on the his stadium/ retail space proposal.

But that is not what you said. I suggested the two companies were two separate companies. You said look again.

Are they or aren't they two separate companies?

Well, he's been at this for a couple of years almost and still nobody has signed up.

I woulod have thought that people would be lining up to get into that place from the hype that was being put out there.

I reckon that's just more Asker smoke eh.

Reckon away. You don't see the connection between the economy and US retail? If Asper is looking to the US for his anchors there might be a wait in store. US retail is on pause right now. They are shuttering stores not expanding to new unexplored markets.

And what is the reference to Lenny?

Of course there's a connection.

That only makes the idea of a high end mall even more questionable...especially in Wholesale City for gawd sake.
