I think it's easy to get back to where the party should be.

Turn right...and stay there.

Oh ya....get rid of a few people at the top...we all know their names.

How well do they respond to you when you weigh in with your views?

Oh, I don't have much influence any longer. I'm part of the Vaughan Baird era.

But we old guys do have our say when we get together for the monthly luncheons at the Norwood.

Heh..this election, it seems like the PCs didn't appeal to conservatives where it counted.

Bravo for Hugh for not wasting any time in pulling the plug.
Agreed. Nice guys finish second.

I suspect Gerrard will be retiring in a year or so, after he's had time to cultivate some viable candidates to replace him and win the riding in a by-election.
Naw. He's there for the duration I believe.

Looks like I called it. Gerrard to step down as Liberal leader — in 2 years

Not to totally hijack the thread, but on the topic of Gerrard, what IS the deal with the MB Liberals and lack of support provincially? Clearly they have strong support in...River Heights, but were lukewarm or dying everywhere else. Is there a historical reason, or are they just not a good fit for the existing political will of this province?

Perhaps Manitoba is a province of political extremes: npd to the left and pc to the right and liberals just did not fit. Now all the parties are blended into the centre. And they all lie. And they are all poopy-pants...

With the lack of a charismatic leader, the voters who disagree with NDP would go to the "other side", ie conservative rather than the moderate, and vice-versa.

And with so few seats and so little real "voice", it's not like the libs have much ability to stir up much dissent against the NDP. Life in manitoba just isn't all that bad and the NDP aren't running around pissing off too many large groups of people.

Just as people are saying the PC's would have done better if they'd really slanted more to the right, how would the libs do any better...

Are there any provinces that are not of political extremes? Nationally, the US certainly is split.

What I'd like to see is a new party based on principles not compromise.
