yeah but they are paying out pretty close to 90% when you look at all the numbers.

And, I know that they pay "well".

The press is quoted as saying they are a provincially funded organization.

That explains the very, VERY deep pockets eh.

WTF do they care about costs, as long as they can put the squanderings in a proper catergory for the auditors.

I'm sure they have never been audited for value for money !!!

27 mill per year from prov.
5 million per year from various other agency;s and govs,

btw. I've spoken to a couple of people about this and the same question keeps coming up....who are these special clients that they (one or two) get an expensive home in pretty exclusive areas?

pretty violent people from the sounds of it

The home, which would be set up in a bungalow New Directions
purchased, was to house two developmentally delayed men and agency
staff. Two staff would be awake at all times to supervise the men.

Frain says the men might not always be on their best behaviour.

"They are high needs folks. They're adults males," she says.

A country environment would be best for the clients, she says.

"It's soothing and calm. It would be a good place for them in the same way it's good for the people who already live there."

Wouldn't it be better, especially for the taxpayer, if these two were placed in some kind of larger institution....one where staff could look after a dozen or so 'clients'?

Seems to me, this clearly shows how things have gotten way out of hand.

One on one 24 /7 is way overboard imo.

so what do the "night time" caregivers get to do? Play cards all night?

Well, if there are two of them....and they are male and female....

I am not sure I would want to risk it no matter whom the woman is.

These guys sound pretty bad just from the brief information given.

Seriously.

This way of 'looking after' two 'challenged' individuals is wacked!

If they are violent, they should be "insitutionalized" for sure. That's a no brainer.

Or....perhaps we should buy a house in Whyteridge and hire a couple of people to look after Vince Li eh?

If their only "crimes" are committed when they have violent outbursts caused by their affliction ... is it fair to punish them by locking them up?

Just a question - would this be the type of place that Vince Li could end up in?

Sure it is.

Why should the taxpayer fund somebody's outbursts?

and yet... you defended Vince Li "disease" as being responsible two years ago.

Sure. But I still believe that he should be locked up, or medicated to the point that he will not harm anyone....."institutionalized".

Didn't all the bleeding hearts try to do away with the term "institution" years ago?

...and at the same time redefine institution though.

That's the problem. One on one in an above average house is wrong.

Its something we simply cant afford to do much longer.

We never should have done so from the beginning imo.

A 3:1 ratio is insanity. 24/7 is also in these houses.

its at least 4:1 ratio me thinks

7x24 = 168 hours

so possibly even 5:1 otherwise overtime is involved.
