FOR TWO PEOPLE! Paid for by mostly prov tax dollars.

WTF!?!?!?

I understand the need and reasoning behind something like this. But that amount of living space and green space FOR TWO PEOPLE... that is just WAY over the top.

New Directions wants to set up its group home in a 146-square-metre bungalow on a 2.5-hectare property it recently purchased on Aspen Glen Road.

WTF???

Just how much do they get to look after these two people?

How many of these 'homes' does New Directions have already?

...it just seems that there's something funny about this picture.....

A good question also being.. So.. what happens if their application is denied. They become owners of a super nice house on a grand piece of property near a golf course??,,,hmm..guess it might as well not go unused... can our CEO live there maybe?

hmm.. you know.. once they get it rezoned.. they CAN do whatever the hell they want to the place provided it falls within the rezoning classification.

A at quick first glance their amortization method seems to be okay, but 5 years for Computer Software? That's normally amortized over 1 year, not 5. Perhaps they did a massive software buy in one year and didn't want to take the hit over 2 years - they have $90K + in computer software.

Also - look at the locations of the houses they own - Kings Drive, Kilkenny - those aren't cheap properties!

Why are they buying all these very expensive houses? Its crazy... unless of course...perhaps its easier to get zoning changes around more expensive houses?

Internal and external relations $38,337 WTF is that?

Here's another interesting expense:

Memberships and subscriptions $34,276

yeah.. compare that one to medical, dental and prescriptions at only around 5K

although to be fair most of their clients probably get those covered under a different taxpayer fund.

Their application was denied.

The 'OB report said they were thinking of making it a human rights issue.

Ya' gotta' know that they're just a bunch of trough-sucking commie bastards for that threat.

Deank

LOL.. so now they OWN the home and cant use it eh?

nice... thats our hard earned tax dollars at work people.

But thinking of making it a human rights issue? frick you. They should be sued for even mentioning it. Why? Because no provision exists to enforce zoning changes for human rights reasons.

from cjob
http://www.cjob.com/News/Local/Story.aspx?ID=1262945

The Council of the RM of Springfield turned down an application for a group home just off of Garvin Road Monday night.
The provincially funded agency 'New Directions' wanted a zoning change to set up the home.
But residents who packed the Monday meeting of council were against
the idea saying among other things such a home could slow down response
times of emergency vehicles and endanger the lives of area residents.

New Directions indicated it could still challenge the ruling with a human rights challenge.

ummm... how exactly could it slow down response times of emergency vehicles??!?!??!?!?

Clay Young may be just making that sh1t up.

In another interview on 'OB, the area councillor said it was strictly a zoning issue.

There is in place, some kinda bylaw stating that the area cannot be zoned anything but residential. That's what the decision was based on according to this lady.

I dont understand why the addictions foundation removed their request tho. Seemed like a good placement to me.

Don't get me wrong, this is not in defense, but for a social service agency to pay out 70 to 80% of its total budget in staffing is common. I can not for the life of me figure out what their mandate is. they have a reputation for "chasing" money, rather than sticking to a fixed mandate.

As a Registered Charity, they have to file a T3010 and if you look at last years, most of their revenue is from the Provincial Government, with less than $6,000 coming from charitable gifts.

yeah but they are paying out pretty close to 90% when you look at all the numbers.
