Apparently, they force you to listen.

If they want to do that, let them pay for the place themselves.

Since when have we started to pay for the building of religious structures?

I'd be more concerned with that JTF if the intent was something less than good. I think one would describe me as an agnostic yet I just don't see what these folks are trying to do is wrong. At the end of the day the people most affected will choose to stay and listen to the message or leave.

I would much sooner see my tax dollars directed to other such groups, provided they are successful and not heavy-handed, than some of the other misguided social efforts the city is attempting.

Ya see, I kinda' feel most are influenced by the fact that this is a "religious" or "church" group, such as you, and, as I pointed out, doesn't mean that it is legit. (I'm talking in gneral terms and not specifically about YFC here).

I still don't see why these groups should be given special status.

Would most people feel the same way if this was some Muslim group that was accused of recruiting members in this manner?

I guess, I'm just not as convinced as others that they are trying to jam their beliefs down the kids throats. All of the people that work there are devout Christians, and if they, take time to explain to the kids what that means to them and how it helps them in their lives, then whats wrong with that? Its part of being a role model.

I hope that were a Muslim group to offer a similar environment for our troubled youth that I would be as accepting.

As long as they were addressing a need and they were doing "good" work, I'd be all for a Youth for Allah group.

But that would lead to the spin off group, Youth for the Reclining Sofa, and that just doesn't sound like good news.

Since we gave them tax free status

Not taxing them is different from giving them money to build though.

But why should they enjoy this as their are some very wealthy churches

The pastors' incomes are taxed, but a lot of hanky-panky with freebies goes on I'm sure....like multi-million dollar "rectories" and the like.

I was thinking of that Pastor Dude that flys between Winnipeg and Calgary and has multi-million dollar homes in both cities.

I think for the most part the parishioners pay to build their own facilities. Novel concept eh? They do have a tax exemption though.

Even the Born again movement have some big places that must cost huge amounts of money .
