That could be the name of our new church. We may have a male only congregation though....Smile

Selling point: Soft sofas and not hard pews eh.

If you include free red wine I may have to reconsider.

I don't see how one can have a church named Our Lady of Perpetual Sofa and not serve free booze and booze-like substances.

If this church involves beer and sofas on a Sunday, can it also include football? If so, I'm in. I will believe anything you want me too!

This church was created on the foundation of popcorn and beer, and already a small faction is trying to steer us away from our guiding principles. I'm leaving Our Lady of Perpetual Sofa and becoming a Jehovah Witness. Church - Page 3 Icon_smile

Cool! He was Dean of Residence when I lived at St. John's College Residence at the U of M. We worked quite closely for 3 years there!

We are going to check out Calvary Temple as well as Springs Church. I want to know if they really ask to see a copy of your tax return...we plan on checking out a few of the others that were recommended. Thanks to the sandbox for your help!!!

I have known Jamie probably for about 15 years, one of my daughters played soccer with his girls. Great guy, nice to see that he is doing good work. Another way of searching for the "right fit" for a place to go is by listening to their podcasts if they have one. I have just downloaded the podcast from St Benedict's Table to listen to. I also subscribe to the podcast for the Meeting Place and listen to it when I need the inspirational voice. I don't always have the time in my schedule to make it physically to church so this can be a good way of receiving the message.

Jamie did his curacy at the parish where I attend before he went to Marymound and St. John's college.

I also worked with him in setting up some aspects of St. benedict's table when I worked for the church ( D'oh - just went ahead and identifed myself!) Laughing

Ironically enough...

I used to go out for beer and wings with the pastoral staff and a number of members of my old church in Calgary after the Sunday night services.

Here is the deal about Springs Church that many are afraid to talk about...

They are generally a protestant evangelical church like the rest of them. However they seem to have added a bit of "The Secret" into their belief system that isnt exactly biblical.

Pastor Leon preaches that if you have enough faith in God that your faith will result in being rewarded by God with good health and wealth. Hence the "health and wealth" gospel that you may hear about from time to time. However they also preach that the opposite is true in that if you have little faith your life will be miserable and you won't reach your full potential.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosperity_Gospel

As for the money side of things... I question if the claims that they want to see your T4 is actually true and I honestly doubt it is. However they certainly do preach that giving large portions of your income is a good way to "prove" you faith to God. This is the reason that Leon can justify living in a big house, he can just say that he is VERY faithful and God is blessing him.

People tend to flock to churches like that because they get to hear about how they can benefit from the religion.

Unfortunately those who should truly benefit are those that you help as a result of your faith and belief.
