http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/mp-defends-plan-to-give-water-bottles-with-tory-logo-to-kids/article1362651/

A Conservative member of
Parliament is defending her plan to give free water bottles, with the
party logo, to French immersion students in Winnipeg.
Shelly Glover says she simply wanted to congratulate the kids on speaking a second language.
Ms. Glover sent a letter to one of the school divisions in the
Manitoba capital, offering to give them water bottles adorned with her
name and the Conservative party logo.
But the school division rejected the idea, citing a policy that
prohibits the use of teaching aids that promote specific parties or
people.
Ms. Glover says she hopes to talk to the school board and find some other way to promote French immersion.
But she says there is nothing wrong with being proud of her political party and displaying that pride to students.

thats what I dont understand. why would they not want their name used?

I am pretty sure many hockey teams would welcome free water bottles right now.

Well it's not directly relevant or important, but there definately seems to be an emerging pattern of the Conservative Party's marketing approach. They're really pushing their brand/logo in, at times, questionable ways. (ie. That large cheque in NF that should have had a Gov of Can logo rather than a Con logo). It seems like they're promoting themselves more like a company than a political party. Interesting approach...

Perhaps the Principal is a Liberal supporter and does not want to see the C logo.

Who cares. I saw plenty of Swag with L logo on it in the late 70's and mid 90's frigging hypocrites.

Teachers are unionized so I would say they are mostly socialists.

yeah the cheques with the party logo.. that was wrong.

Been so long since we had a party that spent in places other then Quebec I am not sure if that is typical or not though.

Well the teachers are, but the school division is not. The school divisions were the ones making the decision on this.

Any way you slice this this is wrong. The government must not be promoting itself in schools on the taxpayers dime.

In fact, the government should stop promoting itself in every manner they currently do. You know, the 10 percenters; the signs at construction sites; credits in movies and TV shows; logos on cheques...

Applies to all parties.

I just sent off a very sharply worded letter. This twit does not seem to "get it".

Well, I remember talking to seniors that thought that their cheques came from the Liberal Party and if they didn't vote Liberal, the cheques would stop. (Lion's Manor) That's overboard by some overzealous party flack I'd bet.

The Liberals were masters at it (anyone recall a little scandal in Quebec) and I figure it's okay for the Conservatives to play a little catch-up.

At least they haven't stolen any money eh.Smile

who said its government money? this could very well be donated money specifically for the purpose of party promotion.

Well I wrote her a letter. If this was not paid for with her expense account I'd be beaucoup surprised. And if that is the case I'll correct the record.

Ummm, I don't expect I'll need to make an apology... Do you?

From the Winnipeg Sun: It's not clear whether taxpayers would have been on the hook for Glover's water bottles. She hadn't yet worked out that detail, she said.

Pav. Encumbants will always have an advantage.

Funny how the School Boards say they want to remain politically neutral but allow all the encumbant politicians to present awards each year...some awards even sponsored by the politician for gawd's sake.

Talk about being two-faced eh.

I think that the kids in school are 87% on dope, and they would join any political party , depending who's logo was the last one they saw!

Shameless PR. Using kids for political votes.
I want to see the french immersion program promoted, but not as a pawn in a political game.

Teachers are rather well educated, and educated people demographically do not vote Tory.

Wow!
That's the biggest lump of crap I have ever heard!
your posts suggest that you are not a tory voter.
Yet the above shows that your level of education is pretty poor.

contradiction! contradiction!
