Friend and I are going down to North Dakota for a weekend sometime in October. The main reason is to get new tires, however we decided to make a weekend of it and camp Friday/Saturday night. Any recommendations on where to stay or what to see while we are down there?

Were not necessarily looking for any sort of full service campground, just a cool place to set up a tent , maybe even spend each night in a different place. Looking at the map, Devils lake looks pretty cool.

or... bring along a ceramic heater and hope their plug ins are working.

those heat a tent real nice and no real worry of them causing a fire.

what to see.. hmm.. just recyled all my tourist maps... you COULD take a quick trip down to the border. They have this little tower just inside the border that has TONS of tourist informtion in it. Cant think of anything off the top of my head.

Bismark, ND. Minot, ND Fargo, ND.

If you spend the extra couple of hours you can drive to The Petrified Forrest in northern South Dakota. That place is Awesome. Or you could drive to the numerous camp sites near Sturgis SD. Check out Mount Rushmore, National Caves (one of the worlds largest underground cave systems) Reptile Gardens, Wall Drug. The Bad Lands, See Custer`s last stand and the site of Fort lincoln.

IMHO the extra few hours od drive time is worth it. South Dakota is way better than ND. Or you could drive to fargo then head east to Minneapolis, lots of fun there.

Just looked at pictures of the badlands! what an epic looking place! Too bad its 10 hours away! bit far for a weekend vacation. Maybe if the weather looks good.

Go to Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
I'm sure you'll be the only attraction.
