Looks like we are planning a road trip to South Dakota and Colorado this summer. It's been 22 years since I visited Mount Rushmore. I plan to re-visit this, as well as Jewel Cave and the badlands. Are there any new things to do along this route? Or things I missed out on the first time around, like other caves besides Jewel?

Also, Is there anything to do in Denver? Not when you're dead, that is.

there are about 50 caves I believe.
Wall drug of course..
and the indian chief statue/mountain is alot further along now.
also a fun thing to do... go to the Diners, drive ins and dives website and hit a couple of the food places along the way.
umm there is now a deadwood tourist attraction site...also pan for gold...

This is soooo funny, I just did a triptic from CAA for a South Dakota/Yellowstone/Grand Canyon/San Diego trip my hubby and I are planning for next summer. The only new piece that I know of in South Dakota is the mountain piece of Crazy Horse which is 17 miles southwest of Mount Rushmore.

Definitely visit the Crazy Horse Memorial, the entrance fee is a bit stiff at 20 dollars but its well worth it in my opinion. I took my daughter there the summer before last, I got to show her all the history I had been telling her about! One odd thing I found there was that children are welcome in drinking establishments.......the Wild Bill Hickok display is in the basement of a bar in DeadWood, I told the ticket taker when I realized what sort of establishment this was that I shouldn't be going in there with my daughter, he said no worries and herded us in. Same thing happened at a second bar, I told the kid to take a good look around because this would be the last time in a lot of years she saw the inside of a bar.
Here is the website for CrazyHorse

Oh definitely will see the Crazy Horse Memorial. When I was there last, it was just a model!

I've been outvoted! My wife's friend lives in Denver, so that is where we are going.
