Whatever. It is a user fee. I don't use the facility. Why should I pay more than anyone that is using it? Just sayin'.

All the other facilities in town. The kids and parents dont have a choice they must play in this facility now if they want to play soccer during winter. Its rec community Centre based soccer. I can totally understand if some non CC based soccer was playing out of there by choice.

I'd say, stick to the local playgrounds and get whatever sport going with whoever wants to play. AND pass the word around, so you'll have more and more peeps coming to play and watch the fun.
Most, if not all, organized sports are there just to fill in the organizers' wallets with tax payers money and parents' hard earned money.
...and I'll keep my two cents worth...

not Community Centre based stuff.

If community centers are still "free access", then okay. I can accept paying for a movie, food, lessons, etc. but not membership or general entrance to a canteen.

Doer agrees... charging is wrong. "This is not part of the business plan,” said Doer. "

You know what?

I like they way they did things 70 to 40 years ago. The community got together and built their own damn CC. And ran it with volunteers from the community and donations from said community.

Now days people are lazy and don't give a sh1t. It sucks for our youth.

Unfortunately, some people have changed the volunteers thingy to a paid job thingy. When volunteers see othewrs that are being paid, they stop volunteering and then we have to pay people...a very vicious cycle.

At least that was the way it was when I was a CC president.

If Doer is telling the truth about having increased their unds, this appears to be what I said it was....A fricken gouge.

its still that way JTF..there are some centres in the city that have paid managers simply because no one in the area wants to volunteer. So if they dont have to have a volunteer to run a program, why should anyone else? And resentment of that fact is huge and does cause alot of problems.

And, of course, everyone screams bloody murder if programs are cut back or centers closed.

total gouge.

they had a business plan that was not properly researched. they figured peopel woule jump at the chance to name the facility and jump at the chance to run the canteen... never thought to actually ask anyone first. yup real great business plan.

in the letter on the Winnipeg soccer federation website they are actually hinting at even charging more for rent next year. Yeah that works to get people to come to the facility.

no doubt, or heaven forbid the few volunteers we do have pulling double duty and taking more then 1 day to get back to someone. Its great you just tell people, dont like it...

volunteer and help change it.

The problem is right there.
a) If one person volunteers, why does another person get paid to do the same job?
b) If one person gets paid to do a job, what makes another person do it for free?
c) a+b=money.

That's why I left my team. The staff were just interested in the number of kids registered and paying their monthly dues. I was teaching them how to play for free. I just pulled out this season, and so did alot of parents with their young prospects, also for the same reason.

How else do we maintain facilities like this? Raise Taxes? No thanks, I'll pay the $2.00

I agree pay your own way. Why do we want to plunder our neighbors all the time so we can benefit ?

What ever happened to kids playing soccer at the local school playground ? Does that exist anymore ? That's what I did about 20 years ago, and I lived.

This is indoor soccer. They play on a surface the size of a hockey rink, including the boards. I believe there are four "rinks" at the University facility.

Or is that a sh tty idea??

Such cheapskates! Of course all of these rinks should be available for free!
