Blame both!!

we could blame both sure... but regardless of the provinces "decision" the city just needs to step up and say.. you know what... we messed up.. instead of having the province force us to give illegal money back here it is.. sorry about that.

Well, Sam did get out front with it and told the cops (?) right away to stop doing it.

only AFTER the public outcry.. and SAM was SURPRISED that tickets were being handed out when no workers were present as well dont forget that part of it.
(I wish this site was easier to search so I could dig up his old comments)

And even the PCs are putting this on the NDPs.

Okay granted PCs when in power basically said no we really dont want to do photo radar city of winnipeg ( susie was the one in charge when Winnipeg first started asking )... Finally the law passed to alow all municipalities to use photo radar.. read that the MUNICIPALITIES to use it, AND they could only use it AFTER applying for the right to use it. ONLY Winnipeg got on the greed gravy train. I totally support giving people speeding tickets anytime it is deserved. BUT those tickets should be handed to them at that point in time. Giving them the tickets two weeks later does nothing at all to improve safety. CHRIST set up some fake police cars with the lights flashing before every construction site.. something ANYTHING that will actually improve safety.
Improving safety should COST us money, not MAKE us money.

Oh, you're right. Sam needed a big nudge to do the right thing. He too, is ultimately responsible for the vans being there...the big buck stops with the head honcho eh.

There seems to be a lot of dumb sh1t going on with respect to some laws...

..another hard-on I have is with "No Right Turn" s by schools that are in force 24/7/365 althought there's no students around most of the time.
I have to wait for a freaking light to change at 3 am on a Saturday night because it's a safety issue??? NFW!

Or, we could just toss this whole photo traffic camera B.S. in the trash like other places have. It's just a cash grab anyway, and that's all the City has ever intended it to be. They just try to cram it down our throats as a "safety" issue.

Then you wouldn't have stupid B.S. like this, costing more and more money to fix the problems caused by greedy officials who got caught.

Let's not pretend that this is never going to happen again....it's only a matter of time before someone thinks of another cleaver way to use these things to generate money.

Photo radar will cease to be used as a tax grab in Novemeber 2010.

It will only be used for proper safety issues.

thats only in a very few spots in the city. And as far as I know only limited to rush hour... you saying in your area that there are some school zones that have no right turn ever on red?

Most red light around schools throughout the city maybe all.

by the simple act of increasing the yellow light duration by one to two seconds, allows for a safer intersection and the removal of camera's which cost way more money to operate and enforce.

I'll have to find that article...once or two cities have done it, and noticed a great improvement in photo infractions @ those intersections.

As well, a countdown timer posted at these intersections works wonders. Too bad we can't get our act together and put these measures into place.

Then the safety nuts would be satisfied, and there would be no room for these kinds of cash grab shenanigans to take place.

Hasn't the city been accused of making some amber lights of shorter duration in a couple of cases?

That wouldn't be above board....the City would NEVER do anything like that. It's not safe.

That would be intentionally making those intersections "less safe" by reducing the yellow light times, in order to generate more red light tickets.

This isn't the article I was looking for...but it's right on target: http://www.motorists.org/blog/6-cities-that-were-caught-shortening-yellow-light-times-for-profit/

My eMAIL to the Minister of Justice...

Time to lose all photo radar devices. This is a pure cash grab that does NOTHING to improve safety. I find it disingenuous and very misleading of you to suggest otherwise. Hard to believe you resist in the face of so many thousands of Manitoban's. You were elected to respond to the wishes of Manitoban's. Try that sometime. You might find it more gratifying than explaining all of you and your government’s mistakes.

Get your act together man. Enough of this crap.

So construction zones have to have signage indicating the end of the zone.... what about school zones? Where is the end of the school zone defined?

No such thing any longer I think??

They don't set up radar traps in front of school anymore?

School zones exist...that's how the mobile units can set up...they are defined on one side of the street by a yellow sign, and they extend to the other side of the street marking the beginning of the zone for the other direction of traffic.

Once again, it's purposefully ambiguous.

So just watch your rearview mirror to catch the end of the school zone, eh?

Oh yes they do. They do it during off hours as well. That is what infuriates peeps. That is what make's it a cash grab over a safety issue.

Oh ya, but just to catch you going over the regular speed limit (50kph usually).

Years back, there were "school zones" where you had to lower your speed to 15mph at the time. There were signs indicating where the zone ended btw.

I've seen those in other cities....I guess they take safety more seriously than we do. Sad
