GOM, Rosie

you guys live over there. you probably see this everyday perhaps you can tell me what the speed limit is.

Going North on route 90 from Grant to Portage ave. Just before you get to the set of lights before the bridge there is this awesome speed limit sign that basically says "you must not go above 60 when rounding this corner on the bridge" about 75 feet onto the bridge and just before the actual corner on the bridge there is a sign. "speed limit 70"

so what is the speed limit on the bridge? doesn;t the second "70" sign supercede the first "60 on the corner" sign since it comes second?

This is just one real good example of dumbass signage in this city that prevents people from knowing what speed is legal. If you know of more, post them here.

The signage is confusing, but I believe one does supersede the other: the 60 when rounding the corner. I think what they are doing is saying generally the speed limit is 70, until you get to this very specific location along the route...

if the 70 came before the 60 I could agree.. but since its the other way around...I really have no idea.

it would make far more sense if they just moved the 70 sign to the other side of the underpass

Ya ... the yellow ones are only suggestions. Like a warning sign. The white one is the legal limit.

If ever confused about traffic signs and signals, all you have to do is consult a 16 yr old who is in the high school driver education program. They have access to the Drivers Handbook

While that statement is "generally" true, I have tried to use that as my defense to the officer who pulled me over for doing the white speed limit in a off ramp that had a lower yellow sign.

Basically, yes, the yellow is a "suggestion" however the cop can still give you a ticket for imprudent or unsafe driving,....is what he told me.

So just be careful, and mind your attitude when you say "but that's just a suggestion" to the officer!

lol!

The cop still has to prove you were driving imprudently or unsafely.

He'd never be able to prove that imo as you were doing the posted speed. If doing that speed was 'imprudent' or 'unsafe' the sign should reflect that and it didn't. Tell the cop to go fcuk himself next time and you'll see him in court....but do it nicely.

Yes...it's true about the yellow/white thing.

Yellow is a "warning" limit...saying there may be a hazard ahead...so go slower around it...and yes, you can get a ticket for reckless or dangerous driving if you go over that limit and cause an accident.

The white signs are the actual "posted" limits though, and apply to the whole roadway from that sign to the NEXT speed limit sign.

In your case Dean...the yellow warning sign is just to tell you to slow down for the approaching curve. The white sign indicates the posted limit, and is probably at a point where you can accelerate safely to get back up to 70.

You'd better be in an accident/collision for the cops to give you a ticket under those circumstances.

I never understood why the speed limit on that small stretch of Kenaston Blvd is a 50, I think 60 is much more reasonable.

The speed limit is what ever you want to drive. All you need to do is complain loud enough that the speeding ticket you received is a tax grab, Get everyone to forget about the law and keep squawking about Tax Grabs and eventually you will win.

So when in the hell are they going to bump up speeds on the TCH? Why does it take so long to get anything done, even the littlest things, in Manitoba???????

Thanks tips, but you still didn't answer my question. What is the real hold up here?

I just find it funny how you can criticize my reference to things moving slow in Manitoba, and yet you can post in ssp on a Regina thread about how projects get slammed in Winnipeg and likely never built.

Just saying......................................

Yeah, well it's good to switch things up instead of keeping things the same and embracing monotony.

Edwin, I just drove through that road on the way to work, and I am happy to report that I forgot to look! I very rarely look to see what the speed limit is in areas where it is impossible to set up radar.

I happened to drive through West Broadway yesterday and lo and beold...

...a cop was standing behind a hydro? box waiting for cyclists to go through the Stop Sign at the three-way stop at Westminister and Young...in front of Balmoral Hall school.

I couldn't believe it. He was very busy giving out tickets to people...cars too btw.

Question: How does Balmoral Hall rate a three-way stop sign? They are a private drive aren't they? Shouldn't they have to wait for regular street traffic?

You actually have to ask that question?
