Detroit Is A Good Place To Speed (away from)

I know Winnipeg is not as bad as Detroit, but does anyone else find the same kind of situation is going on? Having just moved here in the spring, I see people getting away with a lot more than anyone would back in Ontario. Things such as old rotten out/smashed cars rumbling around, terrible driving, running reds/stop signs, no turn signals. However I don't find speeding is a problem here or not, maybe its the speed cameras? Maybe its the fact that with the design of the roads (lots of stop lights, few open stretches), I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

Faced with dwindling resources, overcrowded prisons and much more significant crimes, Detroit police are now ignoring traffic infractions. Below, ABC News describes an incident where Detroit's police chief let someone driving without a license go with merely a warning.

He certainly is a legitimate arrest," said Detroit police chief Warren Evans
of that license-less driver. "But is it worth being out of service for
an hour and a half in an area where the priority runs could be
significant in that hour and a half?"
ABC News also reports that, "The in-car cameras and
computers in most squad cars don't work so officers can't record
traffic stops, run license plates and check for warrants." So
basically, speeding is now fair game in the city of Detroit. We plan on
putting this to the test. [http://abcnews.go.com/US/Politics/detroit-police-chief-warren-evans-battles-crime/Story?id=8693850&page=2">ABC News]

see there it is again... another Police force that is having financial difficulties and has to deal with budget contraints. I dont want crime to run rampant but I seriously wonder why we dont get our costs controls down now when we are not in trouble instead of waiting for a few years when we are in serious trouble.

Man, watching a story on Detroit right now.....something like 67 bodies laying in the freezarinos of the Wayne County Morgue, unclaimed because who can afford to bury them? That is sad.

what happens in Winnipeg when no one claims the body? Do we have mass grave sites like New York?

The bodies are buried at Brookside.

What kind of burial? single? Mass? are they cremated? Simple casket? (cardboard? pine?)

randomly buried wherever there is room? Or is there a specific place for the unclaimed?

They used to bury them in a cloth casket after embalming and putting a shroud on them. Single graves. Marked with the funeral home's metal stick-in marker if the name was known.

The was a 'welfare section' as it was called at the time, where the burials took place.

Paid for by the city I assume? Or is there like a fund of some sort that we all pay into when we are buriedwhere a portion goes to burrying those who can not afford it on their own?

I think the province picks up the tab nowadays.
