I find it interesting that the Bands that are successful in their own right, do not share what they are doing with the other band councils. Though as Canadians we never hear about the success stories, or even know that there are Native groups that are thriving because they had the business sense to do something with their treaty money.

Perfect example is the native group that is bringing in several restaurant franchises to Canada, like Wokbox, Famous Daves, and a few others.

The several bands that worked together to bring South Beach Casino to life are doing well, however there is some issues with spending, it is generally considered to be a cash cow.

All it takes is some effort, and a sound business plan and anything can happen. But they have to want a better life, not just the status quo.

Why does the reserve have to move? Individuals can move.

USA , a good chance, but Russia is too weak, and China has enough money to buy all of our resources! lol

China is on the verge of collapse itself. They wont be able to buy our resources, but could certainly try taking them.

Russia too weak? LOL you do realize that almost every citizen is military trained and capable of fighting a prolonged war with little to no additional resources?

China, may have their issues, but I wouldn't count them out. However on a strategic level, they don't have the capability to strike North America as easily as Russia.

The USA, well if they continue down the current financial path, I can see civil unrest in the near future becoming an issue. At some point the USA is going to collapse, hopefully they don't drag us with them. Civil War 2 anyone?

So anyone who dislikes Canada continuing to send 1/3 of the money needed to keep the First nations on the reservations in poverty , should no longer post on this thread!

We all know that there is not enough "resources" , (money) to provide the aboriginals with a level of living that was promised to them!

(poverty, poor education, nothing to do, crappy health, ) The only thing going for the aboriginals living on the reservations is they can get cheap smokes.

After watching that video, of course it has a spin on it, just like the CBC spins things their way.

There is a significant grain of truth in that video, why isn't the Band council being held responsible? Why is everyone so damn afraid to point fingers at the leadership of that community? Don't want to be called a racist... I hope at the end of the day that the people in need are taken care of, and that there is an investigation done in the finances of this reserve.

And people wonder why there is racism in this country, when you have a portion of society that is molly coddled and treated differently. There are going to be people that are going to be resentful, which only leads to hate.

If this situation doesn't spur a national debate on the state and future of the reserve system, then I don't know what will.

On a side note everyone's favourite former loud mouth chief Terry Nelson has been called out for his corruption during his time as chief of the Roseau River First Nation. The people are demanding the RCMP investigate the misspending of millions of dollars. He is one that I would like to see caught with his hand in the jar, after all the "Whitey" BS that guy spewed.

That's just it. We throw oodles and oodles of money at these communities and too much is foolishly spent. I won't even get into the corruption aspect.

One chief, one past chief, 20 band council members all drawing a very attractive salary, tax free, for a community of 2000 (Attawapiskat). $90,000 spent on a brand new Zamboni(Attawapiskat , again).

Tell us again there is not enough money to manage the existing homes. You take these hundreds of thousands and just provide basic maintenance for homes. Then the big problems arise only occasionally. The you can pay us now or you can pay us later concept.

Newly elected chiefs should be required to take some business and management training. INAC could set up that training quite easily. Until such time as the chief proves competent then put a third party manager in place to help provide direction and second thought input.

Or, shut down federally funded reserves...

The band decided to build a huge hockey rink and spend + $70K on importing a friggin' zamboni.

Canada is lucky to have the international Red Cross diverting funds from Africa to helping get blankets , food and medical supplies to where they are really needed, Northern canada. Those Africans aren't in any danger of freezing to death. They allways are in need, and it has been politically correct to send aid to them. Jyst check out our continual bombardment of those TV ads- 50 cents a day to help the damn babies, $1 a day to help the young kids! What a waste of money. And our Mike the builder with his video asking us to send fresh straw for new buildings to live in- Pathetic.

All the while our Canadadian? , are they considered Canadians by the Harper Conservatives? , aboriginals have to call 911 to the Red Cross and to that commun st corporation the United Nations!

Lol- Look at Harpr agreeing to send 22 mobile homes, up from 15! he is so embarassed! Luckily, one of the Conservative MP's family sells mobile homes!

Who agreed +150 years ago to provide homes, food, education, health care? They should be shot.
