100% chance he will get some hockey questions. The topic he will be speaking on is "Understanding the World Better". Understand that bringing the Jets back to Winnipeg will make the world better! Smile

The Manitoba Post has learned talks are underway with True North Sports & Entertainment Ltd. and a Phoenix real estate investment group looking to buy the Phoenix Coyotes NHL team and move them to Winnipeg. Members of the investors group flew into Winnipeg from Phoenix last night and left for Phoenix late this afternoon. A few members of the group were spotted in Winnipeg two weeks ago, and we can confirm they were meeting with True North today. True North Sports said they had no comment for the Manitoba Post. The NHL in New York said they are unaware of any deal to move the Coyotes to Winnipeg.

and in the freep today Doer has finally basically admitted what the manitobapost had said a while ago.. Smile
"At the Manitoba legislature, Doer told reporters he's met with True North Sports and Entertainment chairman Mark Chipman during the past month about the possibility of an NHL team relocating to Winnipeg."

There are a few people in the city that have that money, but I would be willing to be that they are not stupid enough to drop 200+million one time and another 30 million a year after that just so they can get to sit in the owners box.

The last time I heard it is a consortium of different people as no one person in Wpg has that type of cash .

But we can not even support our necessities (infrastucture, health, etc.) without the federal transfer of payments.
I think we could were our Government more effective. Just look at the decision making on the floodway and the Hydro east side west side debacles. And for you Triniman, the HRM Museum...
By more effective, I hope you aren't suggesting raising taxes. If not, how exactly would you make the Provincial gov't more effective? I'd start by charging market value for hydro. Your ideas?

Yes. Seriously.

And even if a new name had to be chosen, people would still chant GO JETS GO.

$250 million is a red herring. It is rumoured that the actual value of a weak NHL franchise is $130~ million.
