Is there really anything different between parties in Manitoba these days?

McFayden has balked on almost anything remotely conservative and just seems to be buying votes like Sellinger.

Under Hugh we will still have MPIC gouging us, Hydro will still be a piggy bank to raid and rent controls will still be in full effect.

If I vote I will probably throw an X at Hugh, but only in the hopes that he was lying the entire campaign and will backpedal on a number of his promises to keep things status quo.

Heh...if you wish, I'll be happy to hold your nose for you if you do vote for Hughie.

Someone mentioned they own the name to the Manitoba Party. Such a name is a blank slate with no negative connotations. Plenty of people will vote for such a party, since folks are tired of same-ole, same-ole.

I'm not convinced.

I feel as though people want new management of the old parties rather than just give up on them.

The old parties in Manitoba have done nothing meaningful for Manitoba in too many years. selinger and the ndp have not proven they are capable despite 12 years at the helm. The pc's have also proven themselves incapable of new and innovative and fresh ideas for two consecutive elections. The liberals are dead. The green are too fringe.

We need something new that will inspire Manitoban's who will focus on building this province through private investment in jobs over public jobs and deficit budgets despite record transfer payments.

Hugh is "new-ish." Selinger is a new leader.

I want a new party.

I figure the biggest problem is that the NDP have been in power too long.

That suppresses initiative, imo, within the parties, which in turn, gives us the kind of parties we see presently.

actually...i found it amusing dean...cause you have at least caused me to think...

i was reading that Sun article about how they have nobody to choose (except themselves...apparently they have a fictitious Sun Party).

yet they never even mentioned a Green Party. Yet the Green Party has 32 people running? You'd think they would at least get a nod of consideration...even if it's to mention the fruitless efforts.

Here's a recommendation for the Green Party though...focus on the candidates...NOT the Party. Advertising for Green Party candidates should be individual...descriptive...focusing on the topics...NOT the party.

The Party should be more "behind the scenes"...and even hidden as a footnote about the Candidates.

That said...ensure the Candidates are saleable...no silly haircuts, weird outfits, pierced noses. You want people to vote for you, not cringe when they see you. While most people are find with the general populace making odd choices about tattoos & piercings...they don't want them running their government.

meh.. every party has candidates that are off the "norm", but yeah, we hear you.

the "funny" thing about the Sun... if they were being honest, they would realize the green party would have had a higher score then the other three parties combined and they would support that, but its not about being honest, its about "justifying" their position.

Then perhaps they should change their name so that they don't continue to look like a single platform party.

Unfortunately. TONS of people are drawn to the Green Party because of their environmentalist schtick.

Why unfortunately? Even if not elected ( and I really think I would be the best candidate in my area ) the ideas we are bringing forward make it into the collective consciousness of the people, and maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually many of those ideas will be implemented.

Isn't it more accurate to say that it's not what the party is ALL about, but there is that very aspect to it?

Well, you cannot separate that from the party though.

Perhaps that's why the party isn't popular.

Nonsense.

Some members holding certain positions does not make it party policy within the CPC or PC Manitoba.

EXACTLY MY POINT

Green Peace does not equal Green Party.

Bingo.

Works if the voter is informed. If they're not, it doesn't work so well.

The vote cast by a truly informed voter is cancelled out by the vote cast by someone totally clueless.
