From the Free Press,

"Manitobans should re-elect Mr. Selinger's government and hold it to that most paramount of priorities."

From the Sun,

"We then seriously considered whether to give an endorsement of any
party at all, given our dissastisfaction with the campaign. We
eventually came to the conclusion that’d be a cop-out.
In the end, the Winnipeg Sun has opted to hold our collective noses
and endorse Hugh McFadyen’s Progressive Conservatives, if for no other
reason than it’s time for a change."

Sad commentary on the Free Press.

Commie bastards!!

wtf are they thinking?

Heh: I haven't been able to read their endorsement of the Nippers though.

Were any of us really surprised?

Also.. The Green Party would have scored higher then all 3 parties combined in the sun report card from Sunday.

Well, hopefully, you guys can siphon off some of those Nipper votes.

Yeah keep perpetuating the myth that we are socialists JTF. We are more conservative then conservatives, but you want to keep saying otherwise just so that blue voters dissatisfied with Hughie dont even look at us.

Seriously JTF, how many people do you think read this site and are reading this conversation? Do you really think you are changing anyone's mind?

I have a bad feeling about this election, so I'm going to expect the worst and hope for the best.

Hopefully by the next election there will be an alternative to the three lackluster main parties in Manitoba that actually want to direct the province onward and upward instead of maintain the status quo.

There is an alternative now Smile.. no one wants to listen though, and quite frankly IF we had the money more people would be listening. Sad commentary on politics that "money talks"

For the most part Dean, your party is a distant third in everyone's mind.

btw, I'm not perpetuating anything. I just said that your party will take votes from the NDP (and a few from the Liberals too I reckon).

I think you're wrong, Dean. I think people are desperate for an alternative, but the Green label sells you guys short.

People don't consider voting Green because they think you're granola eating Malathion protesters who don't have any other plans for government other than building recycling plants.

Again, the name "Green Party" perpetuates that myth more than JTF possibly could...

Oh I know, the myth is a HUGE problem to get over. Exceedingly huge.

But in many areas Greens are converting Conservative voters as well, so to say we will take votes from the NDP and Liberals alone. Is very wrong

We are the only party talking about fiscal prudence and balanced budgets, and bringing more jobs to Manitoba. Everyone else is talking about spending more money. We are farther to the right then the PCs, yet the main parties try to portray as the opposite way.

You would almost think it would be easier to rename the party than try to change attitudes. Wink

I would agree with Mantha: change the party name. Too much fringe associated with "Green Party".

Nice!

And yeah, Dean - the less descriptive you are in the name, the better. Don't mention the environment, finances, etc. Look at the other three parties - Democrats, Conservative, Liberal - nothing too specific.

But the bottom line is, you guys are right. People see the Green Party name and you have one of three reactions

1) F OFF, you bunch of commie bastards!
2) Gnarly man, the green party loves the planet
3) aww.. aint that cute, environmentalists pretending to be politicians.

Hardly any time, will they take the time to actually look at the platform of the party to see its way more then that.BUT, Door to door when I am out there, I engage people on the issues, and they actually take the time to look at the platform and hopefully are convinced, but at the least they see it for a real party and real platforms. No other party has to work that hard to get people to just open their eyes enough to see us as legitimate.

The larger issue is being generated by the press though. They dont take the time to say anything about us, and as such people dont. Once again I have to outright laugh ( HA HA HA HA ) at the Winnipeg Free Press having the audacity to be running something called the Democracy Project, when they themselves are one of the key reasons for voter apathy.

I feel like I am choosing between the generic brands sold at grocery stores or drug stores.

Which toilet paper is the best?

- Our Compliments
- No Name Brand
- Presidents Choice
- Life Brand

Is there really anything different between parties in Manitoba these days?

McFayden has balked on almost anything remotely conservative and just seems to be buying votes like Sellinger.

Under Hugh we will still have MPIC gouging us, Hydro will still be a piggy bank to raid and rent controls will still be in full effect.

If I vote I will probably throw an X at Hugh, but only in the hopes that he was lying the entire campaign and will backpedal on a number of his promises to keep things status quo.
