People will figure out a way to get to the stadium. McMahon Stadium in Calgary has only 1500 parking spots. Only the "red zone" season ticket holders can get parking spots and even then there is a waiting list.

Is bus service to and from the stadium free for ticket holders in Calgary?

one need only to google map Calgary and Edmonton to see that their stadiums are some major streets and as such bus service already is rockin. Its going to be difficult to get that number of cars and buses out of the U of M after a game.

With that said. AS LONG AS the city does a good job of traffic signal stuff.. then it should work. This is a perfect case where replacing all the lights with remote programmable ones comes up and should be used. But it wont be. TIMING is not what is needed. Traffic needs to be monitored and the lights switched for about 20 blocks away to make it flow. But no.. we are going to go with 1950s technology and just time the lights.

Traffic flow? DeanK, please get those 2 words and an explanation to the City Engineers who think having cars sitting at red lights is a good thing for local business' to come outside and sell their wares to the citizens stuck in their cars!

The problem has been solved! I just heard on the news that on game day the City will be putting up NO PARKING signs in all the close by neighbourhoods!

Get the cadets out there directing traffic on Pembina, Chancellor, University Crescent, Kings Drive. In my opinion that's the best way to control the traffic flow. Allow vehicles to park on residential streets in Ft Richmond and University Heights. I don't understand why they can't park there yet they can over by the current stadium. It's not like the home owners own the street in front of their houses.
I am happy, I will walk or bike to the games as I am very close.

They need to get better. I believe cops (or cadets) managing traffic for an hour or so after the game will be the best possible solution to moving traffic out of the University grounds. Once on Pembina and Bison Drive the high volume roads will wick traffic away quite nicely IMO.

but the nice part about putting in remote programmable lights would be that it would showcase their value and we could start using them in other high volume areas across the city. ( how moronic is that sometimes 60 cars will sit at a set of lights while no one at all goes through the other way?)

Totally moronic.

The city traffic planners have displayed totally moronic traffic management management for eons now.

I don't know how many times I've railed about their most popular answer for new traffic management problems: stick in a set of traffic lights. Now, had they included those under road sensors and managed the lights properly I could even accept them.

They don't.

That said I don't believe even the most efficient automatic traffic management systems would be the answer here. Sound police traffic direction will do the job.

The trick is to get traffic moving quickly, for a sustained period of time. That clears the gridlock.

Considering the losers that make up the Bomber board, it really should not come as a surprise that something as important as being able to "get there from here" has become a major problem.....and there should be no denying that thius is a very serious issue.....that should have been resolved before construction started.

But this is Winnipeg....and the fix was in.....

and this is simply the result of their study. a study that should have been done long before final site decided.

I dont know how many times we all had to scream.. JUST WAIT DONT FORCE THIS... to be overridden with.. its all good no worries...

All because our unelected premier kept seeing himself booted more and more with each passing day.

No.

$2.25 each way when I lived there. Parking at the LRT stations was free however.

I am not even sure that Every rider riding to and from the stadium at cost would pay for the service. But it would make a significant difference for sure.

I know there is a thread around here about the cost of subsidized transit service. Anywho, if the cost of a bus ticket and the thought of riding a bus is enough to discourage people from attending a Bomber game (or whatever event is at the new stadium) then the Bombers are in trouble.

If the transit experience is compelling enough it should only discourage the most lame-minded peeps only. frick 'em.

As long as the routes are decent routes riding transit should not be a problem. IF they can find the buses and drivers for it.

The buses and drivers are a big enough if... never mind the route thing.

The current bus schedule out of bomber games precludes me from riding the bus because it does not stop anywhere near my house and the transfer point and wait for a transfer is ridiculous at that time of night. Tweeking would be a good thing. A very good thing but damn near impossible.

umm.. how would that work? If I had the vehicle to drive I would not take the bus. Problem is I dont have the vehicle to drive to games very often so I need to walk or take a bus or cab.

yup.. only the one vehicle pickle. so IF I happen to get to a game I am busing it.

I dont mind waiting for the bus ANYWHERE in this city when I am by myself. Not so much when I am carrying, dealing with one of the kids tho and it just so happens that the corner of selkirk and McPhillips at 1030 (or later) at night for 30 to 45 minutes and its potentially cold out... is not one of the places I would like to wait.
