okay.. this makes no sense.

Why is the HEAD of the OPP coming out and saying this?
"This essentially means making drivers pay for accidents in which they were driving aggressively in poor weather, not insurance companies "

Shouldn't the insurance companies just be making it part of thier policy? Why would the OPP be involved in this at all?

I agree people driving like idoits should have to pay more for driving aggressively in poor weather and I'll be honest, I dont care if its the police or the insurance company that enforces this. I think it would make more sence that the insurance company do as the police already have enough to worry about. But either way, I support this.

It would help the police if people drove responsibly in poor weather... if the insurance companies were to take this suggestion, there would be more encouragement for drivers to do so.

And a reason for insurance companies to make more money. Every one wins, people drive better and if not the insurance companies make more money. Makes sence to me.

I agree Deank. I've said this before: we pay the police to enforce the laws not create them. We elect politicians to create laws. Insurance companies already have the consumer by the short and curly's. This cop needs not make that relationship more difficult.

This is not about a new law. Aggresive/Imprudent driving is already an offense. It would seem that more encouragement is being sought to have people abide, beyond the cop handing out tickets.

My point is also not about creating new laws. I guess it looks that way though. We don't pay the police to suggest policy for private companies. I want the police to stick to their knitting.

Easier to stick to one's knitting when you have a good supply of wool.

Actually, it is...it's a proposal for new legislation.

And another STOOOPID law at that.

Yet again, a law is ALREADY on the books...it's just not enforced.

And what's the point? Now the cops have to come out and determine fault etc. for a ticket? Isn't that what they already do?
I know in the US...the insurance companies determine fault in collision by the police report. So how's that any different?

Seems to me some idiot who got rear-ended...and his insurance company wouldn't pay because the moron didn't hit the gas when the light turned green...is just trying to harass everyone else...and steal their money.
