I wonder if the Canstar news weekly paper the Metro (delivered in West Winnipeg) will change its name.

I wonder how this will affect the new give-away rag? ho ho

The city is leasing out (pending council approval) the good spots for box placement.

"I want to thank the Winnipeg Sun for supporting the City with this significant contribution through Sponsor Winnipeg," said Mike Ruta, Acting Chief Administrative Officer, City of Winnipeg. "Their initiative demonstrates how companies can work with Sponsor Winnipeg to develop partnership opportunities that will have mutual benefits."

"We are very excited about this partnership," said Kevin Klein, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Winnipeg Sun. "I believe this is a mutually beneficial agreement and one that will also benefit transit riders, hopefully offering a little more incentive for people to choose the bus and help the environment."

kinda funny story...

For the last week or so there's been a dude with a Winnipeg Sun red smock on handing out "free" copies of the Winnipeg SUN in the Winnipeg Square roundabout.

This morning, the Metro had two people out-flanking the SUN guy this morning giving out free Metro's! lol

There seemed to be more people picking up the free Metro and shunning the SUN guy. (Just my casual observation on my way to morning coffee)

so I happened to grab one today whilst waiting for a bus at Confusion corner.

wow. what tripe.

also of note. the Winnipeg Sun Box right on Osbourne at Confusion Corner is FREE

the two Winnipeg Sun boxes on the Island closer to Pembina are Pay boxes.

AND.. Has anyone ever seen anyone use the bike locker????

http://myride.winnipegtransit.com/en/special/bikeandbus/

(bottom of page) they look like they have not even been used once since they have been sitting there.

yeah... about the same level of paper as when you DONT get the weekly paper.

I really dont see this one lasting much longer then the first couple of reports of readership and the advertisers simply refuse to pay.

Then again.. They stand to make a lot of money off the two elections this year.. so that should keep em going for a while
