Okay, it may not get to $ 1.50 a litre, although some are speculating that it could get that high this year.

Would you drive less, change to a more fuel efficient vehicle or do nothing?

Personally, I would do nothing. I'm not about to get a hybrid or a smaller vehicle.

I can't see myself driving less, either.

take up drafting behind semis.

but on your topic. IF fuel does go up to that, would the city add yet another .05 or .10 to the bus cost?

Also..

Aint it just grand that no actual physical disruption in the supply of oil or fuel has happened and yet the cost of oil is skyrocketing?

SOMEONE is making a lot of money off the unrest in the middle east and that crap needs to stop.

Probably share my vehicle more with my hubby and in the spring/summer/fall, cycle a bit more consistently to more than just work. Otherwise I won't change my habits a whole lot.

In 2008 when gas did approach $1.50 I drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee that sucked gas voraciously. When the lease came up I turned it in despite the fact I really did not want to. I bought a much more gas-consumption-friendly Jeep Compass instead. I regret that decision.

The moral of the story is the price of gas will come down eventually. Don't make a change today that you might not make if the price of gas normalizes in a few short weeks or months.

I am actually thinking of investing in one of those fold up bikes so I can bike to work in the morning before traffic starts and bus home.

(not till spring though)

I might even shell out for the electric version of the fold up bicycle just so if exhaust gets bad or its too hot out I dont kill myself.

I have a very nice bike for sale that might interest you dean. Let me know if you might be interested. It was about $600 when I bought it and has about 10 minutes of use! I might let it go for a very reasonable price. It does not fold up nor does it have a motor.

Yes, the price of gas will eventually fall if it goes up a lot. Over time, I would imagine that when it falls in price, it may fall to a higher and higher price.

Why do you regret the Compass decision, out of curiosity?

The price of gas over here is already at CAD $2.02.

The Compass is underpowered and too small. I really liked my Grand Cherokee.

the advantages to the fold-up bike greatly outweigh a standard bike

1) you can fold it up and carry it inside and store it under your desk
2) you can LEGALLY ride on the sidewalks if required to get from point a-to-b
3) It's (typically) lighter than standard bikes...so less effort required to propel (unless you put a motor on it)

My wife and I only have one car and I take the bus to work regularly.

As it stands we only fill up (50L) about once a month.

on point number 1- yes, anyone and everyone will be "passing on the savings" to the customer...so the price of just about everything will go up, in addition to the extra fuel levies that we saw brought out the last time fuel prices went up. Anyone remember all the little signs posted in stores/shops saying "due to the increased price of fuel...etc." The city is no different, and will adjust the annual transit increase as per annual tradition.

on point number 2- that's the power of speculation, prices are based on some a$$-hat's "speculation" about prices and quantities, how awesome for them.

funny how we dont get the corresponding drop in fuel prices nearly as fast as we get the raise eh?

What would I do?

1. Cry a little bit.
2. Call up my stock broker and increase shares in oil companies.
3. Drive less. If I can help it.

When it gets to a buck and a half, I'll start a fund to have Moammar Gadhafi "removed from office".

Funny, I've been helping my friend out at his gas station, and with the price hike came an increase in business!

I'll apply to become an Indian. Don't they pay less at their own stations with a Treaty card? There's one near Headingly. Surely I must have some indian in my background somewhere. They can't make me produce evidence can they? I have a right to be undocumented (as an Indian). Could be a very lucrative business - increasing their numbers. I'd immediately get into the gas, smokes and liquor business. I'l sell you guys gas as long as you promise you're an indian too.

You can probably get it cheaper than them with a Co-op account. Smile

...or buy some land in SW Manitoba and dig a hole, a deeeeeeeeeep hole... and hope oil starts spurting out of it. What would you do if gas hits $1.50 a litre? 62795
