Much has been said in the last couple of days. What do you think needs to happen?

in MNSHO not going to the polls now is just prolonging inevitable. The little three dont want to even try to make this government work. If we went back to the polls and even came back with the exact same mix up of MPs at least then maybe, just maybe the little 3 would listen to the people.

By proroging parliament and coming back when a budget is ready will allow the election to be called on Harper's terms...and not the coalition's.

IMHO, the GG will have to call an election and not give Dion a chance to form a coalition. There are just too many problems with their present 'proposal' (three parties involved, agreement is not long term, who is the Leader actually, etc.).

Parliament will resume January 26th and the first order of business will be a new budget.

sanity to prevail I hope. maybe give some time for NDPers and Liberals to do some soul searching and talking to thier voters.
so.................now that the conservatives have postponed the crisis...anyone still going to the rally this Saturday?

Earlier, 161 MPs from the Liberal, NDP and Bloc Quebecois parties signed a petition urging the governor general to reject Harper's request to prorogue and allow a vote of non-confidence to proceed as scheduled.
"Your petitioners respectfully inform you that they would vote in favour of the non-confidence motion introduced by the Official Opposition if this motion were to be called to a vote as scheduled on Monday December 8th, 2008," the letter read. "This motion clearly expresses the opinion that the majority of Members of Parliament in the House of Commons believe that a viable alternative government can be formed within the present House of Commons."

they want that to be legit.. they should allow it to be a "secret" vote. that only the GG knows who voted which way. Too much heavy handedness by forcing them to sign a petition.

I believe that the Liberals have been ill-advised in this. Dion is out of control and they can't seem to do anything about it.

Happy days are here eh? Smile

well Dion got to make an ass of himself in Front of Canada again and show us just exactly how disorganized he is and how bad of a leader he is. There is that benefit.

Now. Any bets on how fast the 'coalition-of-idiots' will fall apart?

At least the Conservatives will present a REAL budget...

I really don't like Harpers tactics... 'Things aren't going well... better shut down the country for 2 months!!' And I can't believe that the GG approved it...

If the opposition wants another election, so be it... As a minority government Harper HAS to pander to the opposition and his latest antics have been less than stellar...

Also, get rid of the GG... 'you want to shut down the country for 2 months? suuuuure!'... bloody political fools... all of them... OMG The economy is going down hard and these fricking morons decide to shut everything down...

In the immediate future, the coalition will have power... but the conservatives will gain more power/votes as the coalition is seen to be clawing at everyone elses backs... The coalition will pass stupid laws and the conservatives will overtake them both in about 8 years...

Harper and his peons have been acting very arrogantly for far too long. If it took this crises to bring them back down to earth then maybe it will be worth it.

As for the country being shut down, I have to disagree. The bureaucracy is still going full speed ahead. The Bank of Canada is not affected. That said, does anyone truly believe the Liberals and the NDP would have agreed with ANY measures Harper might have suggested in an effort to manage the financial crises?

This coalition did not magically appear recently. It was reported earlier that they had colluded well beforehand.
