I think it was Fargo, the arena in Grand Forks is owned by the Ralph Engelstad foundation I believe.

The aleris center is public. The engelstad stadium is for the college football. and is located on the grounds of UND in Grand Forks

I was talking about Ralph Engelstad arena. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Engelstad_Arena it's definitely not used for football.

The alerus center is used for football.

Ralph Englstad Arena

Alerus Center : Home of UND Football

Both of these places are in Grand Forks, ND.

The Alerus Center was paid for by a special tax.

The difference is for-profit and non-profit...the former being at the top 1% of earners btw.

And just who is profiting from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers?

All this time I thought artists just gave away their artwork free of charge.

The Fargodome was paid for a .5% addition to the sales tax. Approved by public vote.

I don't believe that a single publicly financed building has been erected for the specific use of one particular area of art.

to be fair here though JTF...the stadium would NOT be for one particular area of art.

It will be used for events, concerts, amateur sports, soccer, youth programs...

It'll be used rarely, if ever.

Today, at a luncheon, the mayor spoke about the stadium deal.

He said that he was in favour of it initially because the private sector was picking up most of the tab.

Now, the private sector (Asker) is putting up smoke and the deal should be revisited.

Asker is no longer needed under the present circumstances.

That's very good news imo.

The bid date was extended again to tomorrow. I can tell you the area I'm involved in is hugely complex and extremely costly JUST TO BID. We chose not to bid.
