Hey Daff, this brings up a point, that I've wondered about. I'm white, and I wonder, if I'm speaking to you or some other person who appears to be aboriginal, and in particular, if we are talking about issues related to the aboriginal population, what DO you prefer to be called?

Seriously, I mean I never know what to say. Do you want to be called First Nations, or Aboriginal, or what? when being spoken of as a "people". Not intending any sarcasm here. Just curious if there is a preference. I imagine that since there are many different peoples, among the First Nations, that there could be many different answers to the question. But I'm just curious, what could a white person call a Native, which would generally NOT cause any offence?


Would calling them FN people suffice one wonders?

I take issue with being called "white". I wonder how well a movement would go if it was announced that "white or "whitey" was offensive? I'm guessing the new term would then become "F'n whitey" - and with a smile. Then we should change - whatever the new tag is - every few years and demand that people keep up with the times. This is the kind of nonsense that happens when simply exisiting becomes an industry.

I too am offended when called whitey. Especially when I'm pinkish. But then I would be offended being called pinkey. So, let's stop calling people out by their colour and start calling them out by their value to society.

I am a "tax-paying-contributing-member-of-society". A TPCMOS.

I use the term "aboriginal".

Calling them "native" is offensive, as it implies that the rest of us aren't native to Canada. I was born in Canada, as were my parents and grandparents and great-grandparents. I'm 100% native Canadian.

The term "First Nations" is revisionist history based on wishful thinking. The closest thing to a nation was the Iroquois League, and that was a loose association of tribes.

I call indians "Indians".

I believe that that is what they call each other. It's not a detrgatory term and I don't believe indians are offended by the term.

Besides, I think the reporter got sucked into a dumbass rookie-mistake question.

The indian dude he was speaking to, hopefully, answered that he wanted to be called "Sir".
