I hadn't noticed it in other games...and at first it looked like the US has put a "marker" on each player (think glowing puck for hockey).

Apparently though it's just the way the lighting is, it makes each player's shadow extend in 4 different directions, making it look like an X following each player around.

kind of cool looking.

I've figured out why Ghana is doing so well compared to other teams...

They don't have to worry about the WAG issues plaguing other players..

WAG Issue

This is just one example.

Apparently it's a tradition in soccer for the past many decades.

TERRIBLE finals...some of the worst reffing I've seen through the tournament.

more than 20 yellow cards handed out.
1 red card (but that was because it was the guy's 2nd yellow...and he honestly should not have received either one)

SOOOO much cry-baby over-acting it was ridiculous. About the only incident that should've been considered for a real injury, was when the the guy from the Netherlands drop-kicked the Spanish offender in the chest...now THAT'S gotta hurt.

Hopefully before the next tournament, the referee association will review the poor performance and correct issues. And hopefully FIFA will readdress other issues rampant throughout the tournament...including the simulation, known (but denied) goals, poor reffing, and crappy game balls.

So who won the Soccer Cup this year? Is it even over yet? Sorry, I don't care much for soccer as I think it is a boring sport to watch, but I know I'm in the minority on this one, in terms of a global scale.

I guess you don't watch the news as well where it was announced that SPAIN are the champions.

You probably prefer watching baseball or chess ... oh so entertaining.

It's too bad they couldn't have professional refs for a tournament of this nature.

FIFA has indicated they will be reviewing the reffing before next cup

cosiderations
1) lower age of refs (down from 44)
2) possibly more refs
3) not likely but MAYBE TV replays

This problem is as old as the game itself me thinks.

The only two announcements I've heard from FIFA (in an interview with a FIFA admin) are:

1) possibility of adding a 2nd referee on the field (ie. each covers 1/2 the field)
2) possibility of adding electronic line detection (similar to Wimbledon) so once the ball passes the line, there is some sort of signal.

Personally, I think there is one VERY simple rule they could impose, which would help eliminate MOST of the problems on the field...and it would make a referee's job much easier.

I might have said it before...but don't feel like digging for it...so here it is:

IF a player goes down, and causes stoppage of play, that player is IMMEDIATELY (as soon as it's safe to do so) removed from the field for 5 minutes. It doesn't matter if they feel they can play sooner...they are taken OFF the field with no replacement being sent in for that duration.

That player must then be evaluated by a physical trainer or doctor who must authorize the player to return at the end of the 5-minute evaluation. If they are unable to play after 5 minutes, then an emergency substitution may be made for that player...but that player may not return to that game.

If the player goes down due to a penalty or attack, the team committing the offense (ie. the other team) has the player committing the offense sent off the field for the same 5-minutes (kind of like a penalty box).

So basically, if a foul is committed which causes injury where the INJURY stops/delays play...then both teams suffer a penalty.

I think it would very quickly get rid of all the "simulation" going on, as no coach wants their team short-handed, and no player wants to be removed from a game for 5 seconds...let alone 5 minutes.

So yes, fouls will still occur...but the players will be popping back up pretty quickly to continue play instead of rolling around whining like idiots.

stoppage of play should also stop the clock.
