Portugal was playing.

No surprise for anyone who has ever worked for any of the heavy construction companies in the city. The Portuguese love their football. Good on them for putting their love of the game before work. Most of the owners know nothing will get done for those 2-3 hours anyways even if they were to force the guys to come in to work, so why pay them for that time. Better to just let them go watch. Everyone is happier that way.

I have NEVER missed my team playing in a World Cup or Euro because of work lol. Somethings are definitely worth burning sick time and or vacation time. In 1998 I even almost had to figure out a way to reshedule my WEDDING, due to the posibility of my team potentially making the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time ever. Had it worked out that way I knew for a fact that none of the males invited (my self, and my dad included) would have wanted to be at a wedding ceremony at the time lol.Needless to say my wife was not impressed, and luckily for my marriage (unluckily for my team grrr) the conflict didn't end up happening.

Canadian's really need to learn to prioritize better lol.

Oh, and man Argentina look GREAT on attack. Hope their defence doesn't do them in cause they are playing some beautifull football up front.

heh.. the white of a wedding dress would make a good projector screen Smile

Are you saying your team didn't make the playoffs? or you didn't go through with the wedding? Wink

Turned out that the conflict didn't end up occuring because my team lost the round of 16 game that would have seen them go through to the quarter-finals on my wedding day. Had they won, they would have been playing on my wedding day for a spot in the semi-finals for the first time ever. There is no way I would have been able to miss that.

It worked out for the best over all, been happily married for 12 years....but I still always wonder "what if" things had worked out better for my team lol.

Seems so. Coach suspended a player and the rest of the team protested. Perhaps mike kelly was the French coach.

If S. Africa could've scored another goal or two and won, then they would be advancing.
But they had more goals scored against them than Mexico.

As for France, there was a player who basically told the coach to go screw himself during the half-time team meeting...and the coach benched him, to which the player went off on the coach...so he suspended him.

The team seemed to believe they needed that player and supported the argument (apparently the coach had made some dumb decisions over the course of play), so they staged a boycott of the practice.

GO GHANA!!!!! Another beautiful moment in the great game....first five minutes and Mister Prince sneaks in a smooth goal over the US......it would be so nice to see an African team proceed to final 8 and being that Ghana is the only African team left? Oh my....this second half is gonna be cool.

And the US makes a beautiful penalty shot into the sidewall bringing the game even again.

It's a very good game so far from both sides.

The US are dominating the field by a long-shot though...and missed several great scoring opportunities.

I hadn't noticed it in other games...and at first it looked like the US has put a "marker" on each player (think glowing puck for hockey).

Apparently though it's just the way the lighting is, it makes each player's shadow extend in 4 different directions, making it look like an X following each player around.

kind of cool looking.
