Tenderloin's sausage is way better then Metro Meats. I've had both.

We were under-impressed with Metro's garlic sausage. It seemed mediocre at best.

Having lived in the North End for most of my life, my preference will always be European Meats on Burrows and Andrews. Even when I lived away from Winnipeg, we were able to have the course garlic sausage sent to us by courier. And the smoked bacon is the meatiest I have tried. It is cured and smoked right on site and you can have it sliced or take it whole, your choice. I have compared most of the other north end butcher shops and although some may have better prices or claim to be the best at what they do, one thing that they will not allow is a customer in the back to see how they are making their product. I like to see what kind of smoke house they are using and what type of wood chips they are using to smoke the meat. And the prices are reasonable. You can get a ring for around $7.00 and sometimes if you buy more, the second (and third) are $5.00 each.
It is all a matter of opinion and taste. To each their own.

Old Country makes the hot dogs that kelekis and the Half Moon sell. I get them at Cantors. I do not think that you can walk in and buy them at their plant because they are a wholsale only. I could be wrong, but I don't think the meat stores would support anyone who sold to their customer's. You probably could ordr through a company name , perhaps if you phoned and said it was for your canteen?? Anyone know?

They have a retail store that is open to anyone with money and good taste.

I didn't know about the hot dogs, so I'll get some the next time I'm there. Thanks for the tip.
