I would take that bet. But My mother taught not to take candy from babies. Laughing Laughing

no what I am saying is that you are a bloody idiot for constantly going on and on about THE USA MARKET!!!!... when pulling one team out of a non hockey area will not have any impact on THE USA MARKET in anyway. Fans in New York wont stop going to games and wont stop watching them on TV just because some team in the southwest no longer exists.

You are simply missing the boat Deank...A city in the US that isn't a hockey city can be moved to a new potential hockey city with much bigger demographics than Wpg within the US to continue with the further expansion of the US market TV revenues in the US...and...

And how on earth would a team in Wpg further help the NHL expand it's TV revenues in the US?...and...

And do you seriously think that fans in New York would really care about Wpg in relation to a game Wpg plays that doesn't involve New York but might be televised in New York?...and...

And or the US Market would change as a result of Wpg having a team or not?...and...

And do you seriously think that the American TV networks will somehow knock on the door to promote Wpg to the US?...It ain't going to happen...and...

And on the other hand...US TV networks may be interested in promoting a new US team to that same US city's demographics and collect plenty of advertising dollars from local or regional businesses etc...and...

And that is how you expand in the toughest market in the world to crack which is the US market...GGF

I'm afraid ggf that you've nary a clue, nary a clue.

This time, please do some research before another epic yawnfest of a post.

The Canadian TV revenues simply overwhelm the minuscule dollars that the US broadcasters bring to the party. This after 40 years of "growth" in the US.

Bringing in Las Vegas or Kansas with their tens of viewers does NOTHING to grow TV revenues in the US.

Learn a little something about demographics and business then come back and edumacate us.

GOM...I am specifically talking about in relation to the demographics of a specific city within the US and pertaining specifically to the demographics of that city in the US and in relation to the revenues that can be generated within that same specific city in the US and it's demographics...and...

And why do some seem to think that "NHL Expansion in the US" means in terms of the "Entire US MarketPlace as a Whole" and specifically in one swoope like a magic bullet of sorts would come down and change things for the NHL in the US...and...

And instead of a smaller more specific target area within a city in the US that can be expanded or exploited and grown for the "NHL to expand in the US Marketplace?"...GGF

Huh?

Because YOU keep saying "the US". If you are referring to a simple demographic than say so. You know, I can't read your mind (and am grateful).

Bettman figured that if one can sell fridges to Eskimos, you can sell hockey to Southerners. He forgets that Eskimos use fridges to keep their food warm and Americans have two other sports that takes up all their time. He's a dumbass.

Yes he thinks he will make the next NFL , and he will not let go of this silly ass pipe dream . Till the dream die,s and salaries come back to earth , this city would be hard pushed to support it . The only reason Shenkarow left was not enough fannies in the seats to make money .

GOM and Deank...Yup...No surprise from those who think with the puck stick instead of head...and...

And of course I know what I am saying about moving a team within the US and US expansion within the US market etc...GGF

We had the NHL here, and we had a Conservative government that was afrid to help out when the owners had to pull out because they didn't have the financial backing to LOSE MONEY!
The payroll was around $11 million dollars and thet had 13,000 people attending on average, in a facility where they earnes no money from the sale of beer, food, and parking.
I think there was an agreement in place to sell to a local for $85 million. That was what CJOB was trying to raise, I believe.
What is that franchise worth today? What is the cost of a club salaries today? $45 million?
We pay those athlete's way too much for a small town, a small cheap town to be able to afford to go see the best skaters in the world.
I loved taking my 4 kids to the WHA, when I was able to get those $7 , 7-11 seats.
Any $7 seats for the NHL? Average wage earner pays probably $75 per seat in Calgary? Anyone know what seats are in Toronto?

Calgary Flames tickets- way up high 3rd level are $45, up high around the goal area are $75, $145 for good seats.
$75 x4 kids plus 1 Dad - $400 . better take my own popcorn and drinks. Ouch!
How does a poor guy take his kids? I guess I would just re-mortgage my house!

Most are underestimating the precarious financial state of the USA. The short-term float of a meager few trillion is almost flushed through. Now reality resurfaces and the situation is bleaker than ever. All those financed bailouts did was buy assets (private bankers) on the other side of the planet. Half those teams will be in distress mid-season next year and the movement will begin. Bettman can take his delusion to another planet. Believe me - many sided with the BlackBerry dude. Winnipeg is first on the list and it will happen. As far as who would want to watch the Jets in NYC - that's not even close to the real dynamic - those American teams consider any (some a little more than others) Canadian team as playing against Team Canada (the fans do and they love to beat Canada). I remember in the early 80's going to see pittsburgh play the Jets and they'd get 4,000 people in the seats to see that shitty team. They ain't all that. You'll start losing respect for the strength of the American markets later this year. All Bettman was successful at last year was fighting that reality off - and it will cost the league millions and eventually billions - that's why he'll be gone this year.

Salary cap this year is almost $57 million.
I think most of the Canadian franchises are very close to the cap.
And this is in a recession year.
I do not think there is enough discretionary spending money in Winnipeg to play in that sandbox.

Also the salaries will begin to tumble. Players will be accepting concessions to current contracts by this time next year. Their choice will be play for less or don't play at all. There will be no stupid walkout this time - reality will take over where Bettman left off.

I hope you are right.
But when it comes to professional sports, people do strange things.
And I think they have revenue sharing now so the "rich" are propping up the "poor".
The salaries should never have got that high in the first place.

Did the provincial and or city governments actually subsidize the Jets the last couple of years they were in Winnipeg or was my coffee bud BS'ing me.
If they were does anyone remember by how much per year?

Would it surprise you that the Canadian teams are writing cheques for subsidies to many of those "big market" US teams?

Don't be.
