I just hope we give them a new name. I like the idea of a clean slate. It'll smell more like success.

Ice Edge breaks off talks to buy Coyotes


WINNIPEG — Ice Edge Holdings have walked away from the table in their bid to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes.

"Talks have broken off," Ice Edge chief operating office Daryl Jones told the Free Press late Monday night.

"We were adamant about needing exclusivity in these negotiations and they haven't provided it. I'm not totally surprised. We've been dealing with this for a while. We thought we had agreed to certain things and expected them in writing. That didn't materialize."

Ice Edge had been working with Glendale city council to draft a lease agreement that was amenable to both parties. Once a lease was agreed upon, Ice Edge had hoped to purchase the Coyotes from the NHL, who purchased the club out of bankruptcy last fall.

Glendale city council is still expected to vote on a request to satisfy a number of NHL demands, including one that would see the city put together a financial guarantee to cover any losses incurred by the Coyotes for the 2010-11 season if the NHL is forced to operate the team for a second season.

Good news. Let's see if Reinsdorf reappears.

I can't wait to hear all the naysayers come out in droves to say "Winnipeg is too small", "Winnipeg is too poor", "Winnipeg is too shitty", "Winnipeg has no corporate support" blah blah blah blah. Suck it naysayers; the Jets are coming home!!!

I will certainly go to more Jets games than I have to Moose games.

What would be needed to keep a freshly returned NHL team here, in the long term?

When I was a kid, I never thought the Jets would leave because this is a hockey crazy province.

All we need now is a team.

Well it is looking very promising, I wouldn't go that far yet. The NHL has already said they will operate the team in Phoenix for another year while they look for an owner if the city of Glendale will cover the losses for the next year. The COG vote tonight on the issue of covering the teams losses for next year. If they vote NO, than I would be getting very excited!

They WILL vote no.

I sure hope so!
